Is there an automatic extension of the Thai tourist visa to 60 days?

I inform European citizens who have heard the news of the automatic extension of tourist visa to 60 days that as of today the Thai Embassy in Rome is not aware of any initiative defined by the government for the automatic extension of the visa so the procedure is the same as followed years ago . For a stay of more than 30 days, you need to apply for a visa at the embassy or go to the tourist police once you have arrived in Thailand and extend your visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
As of now, the Thai Embassy in Rome is not aware of any government initiatives regarding an automatic extension of the tourist visa to 60 days. Travelers wishing to stay longer than 30 days must apply for a visa at the embassy or extend their visa with the tourist police in Thailand. There is also ongoing discussion about increasing the visa-exempt entry duration to 60 days, but this change has not yet been implemented.

You are talking about the proposed increase for a visa exempt from 30 days to 60 days, and no it has not been implemented yet. The 60 day tourist visa remains unchanged, they are both totally different things, just to let you know.

The department of Foreign affairs made that announcement, but they jumped the gun, so as I said nothing is different, when you come here you will still get a 30 day visa exempt stamp upon entry to Thailand, and you can extend that one time only at your local immigration office for 1,900 baht. At this stage there has been no official date for the implementation of the 60 visa exempt, so just wait and watch.

Nothing has changed. Nothing is different from June 1st. It was all media speculation.

A tourist visa has always been for 60 days. You apply for it and pay for it through your local Thai embassy. There is no plans that this will change.

There is also no proposal for any kind of automatic extension.

There is a proposal to increase the visa exempt entry to 60 days permission to stay in Thailand. This is only a proposal. If and when it actually happens, no one knows.
