Can I extend my 30-day visa exemption in Thailand for an extra 30 days as an Italian passport holder?

I am just out of Thai embassy in KualaLumpur.

I am going to Thailand on visa exemption for 30 days (Italian passport)

They told me I cannot apply for an extra 30days extension while I am in Thailand.

I did it last September 2021.

Has the law changed since last year?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user queried about extending a 30-day visa exemption in Thailand after being informed by the Thai embassy in Kuala Lumpur that an extension was not possible. However, comments in the thread clarified that it is indeed possible to apply for a 30-day extension at a local Thai immigration office for a fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

your first mistake was believing anything a thai embassy says about entering the country on a visa exempt entry 😮 as James said, you CAN get one 30 day extension on a 30 day visa exempt entry at the immigration office for 1900baht.

If you're wanting to come in to the country visa exempt, forget what the embassy is telling you, don't worry about the requirements for a tourist visa and just apply for a thai pass, meet the entry requirements and come in on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp

That is not true. Where they pushing you to get a to tourist visa with them?
