Hello everyone!

Question about the 500K. I see several comments claiming that you should always keep 500K in your account throughout 5 years. And I also see a lot of comments saying that it is not a requirement. I have a question to those claiming it is a requirement.

Can you please direct me to any official page that clearly says it is an ongoing requirement throughout the 5 years? And do not quote visa application requirements, as these are not the same things.

And secondly, if you believe it is a requirement but cannot point to a source then what in your mind is the point of that 500 000. If we cannot use even a single baht of it then what is the point of having it sleep in the account? Some claim it is for emergencies... But how can it be for an emergency, if we cannot use it?
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the ongoing requirement of maintaining 500,000 THB in a Thai bank account for holders of certain visas, particularly the DTV visa. There are conflicting views in the community, with some asserting it is a strict requirement throughout the five years for visa holders while others believe it's merely an application requirement and not enforced upon entry. The original poster seeks official documentation to clarify whether the 500K must be kept untouched during this period, questioning the practical implications if the funds cannot be accessed. Responses in the comments range from personal experiences and observations regarding entry checks to opinions on the necessity and risks of having large sums of cash.

I've visited Thailand about 20 times over the past 15 years as a tourist, with the last 7 times using my DTV and I've never been asked. Are you asking whether or not you can have the equivalent of 20k Baht in Euros? Yes you can. But 200 is not enough, take 550 to be safe. A friend of mine got checked for the money, he was asked to show them the cash and they counted it. Don't risk it just in case

I've been in and out multiple times and have never been asked for it.

With a DTV you’re not asked anything. I entered Thailand via land border from Laos four days ago and wasn’t asked a thing. And I was sat in a room with the immigration supervisor as it’s an interview when crossing via Friendship Bridge

On You tube lots of series about Immigration in the UK, Australia, USA, Canada and other countries. Immigration is named the first line of defence for a country.

BUT when an Immigration Officer ask a question when a foreigner wants to enter Thailand, Facebook explodes with comment that they are not allowed to do their job.

Foreingers special those holding a DTV should be stamped without talking, should be guided like they are the KIngs of their own dreamworld.

GrayWallaby8130 by definition of what you are saying, you're not supporting yourself by locking that money away never to be touched in 5 years. There is no requirement to lock that money away at all, if there was it would be expressly written as an ongoing visa requirement just like other visas have that condition.

so what you are saying is when you apply for the visa you need to show that you have money to support yourself but when you actually arrive in Thailand you don’t need money anymore?🤭 Yes, they can ask for the 500k and because of all the crackdowns and visa tightening it’s just a matter of time when they will ask it from you also

The 500k baht is an application requirement not an entry requirement. They 100% don't ask for it, this is social media bs

The 20k rule has been there for ages. I have never been asked to show, but theres been news for quite some time that they are getting more strict about it.... so just have it in cash, can be any currency. I dont know, but what i read from you cant use atm when you get here, have to have it in advance
