I'm on non o retirement visa that's up for renewal January next year. I usually apply for renewal December. My question is, my passport expires April 2027, so will have 15 months left on it at time of visa renewal. Is it a requirement to have at least 18 months left on passport, or will I be alright to get new passport after visa renewal. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand, there is no specific requirement for your passport to have at least 18 months of validity left. Instead, as long as your passport is valid for the duration of the visa extension, which in this case would be until January 2027, you should be able to apply for the renewal without any issues. However, it's advisable to ensure your passport has at least 6 months left before any travel to avoid complications.

You need to get it renewed to have at least 6 months left on it or you may have problems when traveling

There actually is NO requirement at all as far as passport validity to get a new yearly extension at your immigration office.
Works like this
IF your passport isn't valid for the full year you would get when you apply for the extension you only get the extension issued until your passport expires. ๐ฎ Then you'd get a new passport and apply for a new yearly extension on the new expiration date
As far as your question your extension if you apply for a new yearly extension at your immigration office in Dec for an extension that runs out in Jan you'll get a stamp good until Jan 2027, Your passport is valid longer than the extension you'll get
Agreeing here and to also add, and please correct me if wrong, the only criteria that would impede a passport from being valid prior to its expiration date is the number of blank visa pages that remain. If a passport expires prior to a visa, then there are various ways to either carry over or re-appy, as Tod describes
