Is Thai immigration still charging for the visa on arrival? What gets me is that I can get a 60 day visa at Thai embassy fro 40.00 usd. On arrival was costing 2,000 baht.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the current status of the Visa on Arrival (VOA) fee in Thailand, noting that the fee has been waived for certain nationalities until October 2019, while highlighting that US citizens are generally not eligible for the VOA. It mentions that obtaining a 60-day visa at the Thai embassy is more cost-effective compared to the VOA fee.
you cannot get a 1 year visa in Vietnam you can get an O Visa which you can extend for 1 year based on retirement which you must be 50 or older but you must meet the financial requirements plus now you need insurance

We can get 60-day tourist visas in advance, which saves a trip to immigration within the first 30 days, and eliminates a border run until 90 days. It’s true US citizens can’t get VOA’s here, but we can get 1-year VOA’s in Vietnam.. which can be an easy border-run option (by air).
