I plan to enter Thailand via Savarnaphumi Airport, get 60 day VOA, then apply for a 30 day extension at about the 45 day point to stay a total of 90 days. Is that doable?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can enter Thailand as a US citizen under the Visa Exemption scheme, which grants you a 60-day stay. After approximately 45 days, you can apply for a 30-day extension at a local immigration office, totaling 90 days in the country. It's important to clarify that the term 'visa on arrival' is not applicable to US citizens; instead, they receive a visa exemption which allows for this process.

Make sure you check with your airline if you need to show onward details after day 59 as you may be denied boarding at checkin if not...

Where are you from? If you do need a VOA instead of a visa waiver, you first get 15 days not 60. The VOA is NOT required for most European countries and the US/Canada/Japan/Korea, thou.

if your passport is from the 93 countries eligible for entry without a visa into the Kingdom you will get a 60-day Visa Exempt. Then you may apply for 30-day extension at ฿1,900. There is no VoA for 60-days

What country?

US Citizens are entitled to a 60 visa upon arrival at BKK. You can get the extension later. Maybe ask for the 90 days and see what the officer will say.

US citizens do not get visa on arrival. They are entitled to an exempt of visa entry. 60 days with no visa and can extend in country for another 30 days.

I think that’s a visa exemption rather than visa on arrival. You won’t get 90 days but will have to get a 30 day extension at an immigration office.

I went to Thailand in April and flew to Laos the very next morning and the Lao Immigration Officer initially gave me 30 days. I caught that and ask for 90 days and they gave it to me. I flew back to Thailand a week later and stayed 60 days. I know that every country is different, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Just trying to help.

It's possible with visa exempt, which is what you'll get.

You are not eligible for visa on arrival which is where you apply for and pay for a visa at the airport.
