So rather than hijack another thread where I found the attached pic, my question is can I transition to an EXTENSION for retirement from a Non O multi entry VISA based on marriage?Can I use the income method, overseas transfers, or MUST I show 800k in my bank? It’ll either be in BKK or Phuket immigration.

Planning ahead as my divorce should finally be settled by visa expiration and if it’s not I’d rather get on the retirement train now rather than be caught out.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of transitioning from a Non-O multi-entry visa obtained through marriage to a retirement extension. They question if they can use income or overseas transfers instead of the required 800,000 THB bank balance for the retirement visa, particularly in Bangkok or Phuket immigration. Comments provide insights into the financial requirements and immigration processes, suggesting that the initial extension must match the reason for the original visa, and offering alternate methods to obtain a visa based on marriage, while some advise on the retirement visa's financial proof options.

I noticed you said that you had not been living together for some time. If you have changed address, that would seem to trigger the need for a new TM30. In the process of doing that, immigration might well want photos or a home visit showing you living together, which would trigger the need to change Visa type.

so far not the case. I’ve been doing TM30 online for at least three years.

another option is to see if she'll give you copies of her thai i/d, her house book listing, write a short letter asking a consulate issue you a visa and go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet and get a year long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage for 5000baht without the need to provide proof of funds

You would have to bounce out and back in on that visa every 90 days BUT even if you got divorced during the year, your visa would still be valid and you could get almost 15 months out of it by bouncing out and back.

are they issuing METV in Savannkhet or only the marriage one? Thank u😇

There is no Thai embassy/consulate in South East Asia that issues METV to foreigners without legal residency in that country

that’s how I’ve been getting my last two visas. Trying to become independent of her so once she actually shows up for the divorce it’s not an issue. Plus she complains about providing me with documents I need.

About the retirement visa, if we don't have 65k monthly income but only the 800k (and more) in a bank, is that okay?
Kevin ***********
@Mimim *****
If you can show that the 800k was an international transfer

@Kevin **********
it's not, it's from my salary savings while working for a BOI company in Bangkok, so can it be a problem?
Kevin ***********
@Mimim *****
If you apply for the non o “retirement” visa in Thailand, the money must be an international transfer.

okay, so right now im not even 50 yet but in 3 years, and i've already bought a condo in Bangkok 4 years ago. So basically i've made an international transfer to buy it, but the only money i have left in my thai bank account is from my salary. Is there any chance to get a retirement visa in this situation?

@Mimim *****
you're getting the cart WAY before the horse if you're three YEARS from turning 50 😕 calm down, wait it out, see what's what THEN and go from there

@Tod ********
I agree, things will probably change in 3 years!

@Mimim *****
3 years is a long time to predict anything but as of now the answer is no

It’s possible that ELITE visa might be an option for you too.

Ok. Thank you for responses. I will check with immigration when I return in a couple weeks. She gets annoyed providing the letter and other information. Also we haven’t lived together for quite some time. I’ll probably have to get visa based on retirement then do extension before the 90 days end.

What about finances. Will it be required to show the 800k or can I get visa with transfer option then extend with same financial proof?

Look for requirements for application of the visa at the Thai Embassy in the country where you are. For Extension of Stay you need minimum 2 months prior application minimum 800.000 Thb on a Thai bank account on your name. Money must stay there for 3 months after aproval date and rest of the year not less than 400.000 Thb

Most immigration offices want you to apply for the 1st Extension of Stay same as the reason why the visa is issued.

As the visa is based on marriage your 1st Extension of Stay must be based on marriage, if you divorce during this Extension of Stay, you can cancel this Extension and apply for a new Extension of Stay based on 50 years or older.

But nothing to loose to ask if you can apply directly for based on being over 50 years of age.

That is exactly what I was told (Samut Prakan) and my first year extension was based on marriage, I then met the requirements for 'based on retirement' and switched to that for the following years, without any fuss.
