Hello, i am planning to apply for the DTV, the nature of my work in my home country is a freelance videographer and marketer, i work in real estate mediation and with traditional businesses managing their social media presence, i meet all requirements but i was wondering if the DTV visa is the appropriate visa to apply for since i plan on doing the same type of work in thailand?
Answer summary
The DTV visa is designed for remote work, allowing holders to work for clients outside of Thailand without engaging with local clients or entities. To work legally in Thailand as a freelancer or for Thai businesses, you will need to apply for a Non-B visa and obtain a work permit, which may require local sponsorship or forming a Thai company in partnership with locals, as foreign ownership is limited.

The DTV is purely for remote work, you can't work with any Thai entities or clients inside Thailand. If you want to work in Thailand you will need someone to sponsor you for a Non-B visa and provide a work permit for you, or set up your own Thai company. Even so you need to find a Thai (or Thais) willing to partner with you as you can hold a maximum of 49% of a Thai company as a foreigner

Ahmad Atharbeh If this is your aim then the DTV is definitely not the route you need. Starting a business in Thailand has many requirements that need to be complied with, capital, foreigner to Thai employment ratio (I believe for every foreigner you have to employ 4 Thai nationals which includes paying their tax and social security etc), you need to identify if your business plan is actually permitted to be operated by a foreigner. There's a lot of homework ahead of you. Have a look at Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI) as a starting point.

Ronny Liekens thank you, so i must have contracts with overseas clients or contract of remote employment / freelance in order to be elgible, i was wondering if there is a minimum monthly salary in case of remote employment?

Ahmad Atharbeh So long you are unemployed you will get not the DTV because some requirements include • Employment contract, employer letter, or business registration/license from a company outside Thailand.

• Professional portfolio or freelance contracts showing work for international clients.

Ahmad Atharbeh given the current controversy over nominee shareholders can she invest along side you? If not that could be an issue. You'd need to register a company with 4 million baht capital, so I think that means 1 million baht up front and for the work permit you need to earn a minimum of 35k baht per month, as you are from Jordan.
