DTV holder here, now would like to apply for a teaching job. So: German national, master's degree equivalent (economics and political science), my English is close to mother tongue and my computer skills are top. Since last December: got a soft-power DTV (Muay Thai). Now I'd like to apply for teacher jobs on nice Thai islands - how is this possible with DTV? What could be done?

Anybody with experience in this regard - would be highly appreciated.

You can apply for all the jobs you want on a DTV but once you find one you will need a non-B and work permit to start work.

You can apply while on a DTV - if you get the job you need a different visa.

For many jobs in Thailand only a Bachelors is required. Probably not going to get a high paying international schools position with that though!

First, find out if such a teaching position even exists on a nice island. You won't be the only academic who needs something to eat on their journey of self-discovery and has to take a job. Others have also come up with the idea of taking a teaching job, so it's possible that all the positions are filled. What I'm trying to say is, don't cancel your DTV until you're really sure and have found something permanent and know that you can work there for the next years.

Is there any guidance on converting DTV to another visa? I have not seen it in writing anywhere. My experience with a Retirement Visa was it had to be cancelled before I could get a "B" for a WP. There was no "Converting"

I only have experience with ED visas, and I had to cancel each of those ED visas in order to apply for a new one. I also had to cancel my ED visa before applying for the DTV, so I assumed that a DTV could also be canceled in some way

I am thinking along same lines as you are. I had to cancel "O" to get "B". There was no "Converting". As for cancelling DTV that is an interesting point. When I wanted to cancel my "O" they would not do it at BKK - they told me to go back to issuing office ie Jomtien. If the same is applied to DTV this might cause some inconvenience if anyone wanted to cancel.

It is illegal to work in Thailand with a DTV. You'll need to move to a Non-B visa with work permit.

1) Find out how DTV can be cancelled. This is not clear but a good first step would be to know. For example, can it be cancelled in Thailand by Immigration or only by the MFA ie whoever issued it. 2) apply for and get a teaching job 3) Get DTV cancelled 4) School applies for WP 5) Take WP letter and other documents and apply for a non-B. I went from Retirement to Non-B. It took 2 trips to Singapore and a Cambodia border run. That is why I said number 1) above so you know the exact steps.

You can't get a teaching job (or any other kind of job) with a DTV. You would need to find an employer who will support you with the paperwork to get a Non-B visa inside Thailand and convert your DTV to a Non-B visa at your local immigration office inside Thailand. Most employers want you to get a Non-B outside of Thailand because the paperwork is so much less but this won't work for you as you can't hold 2 visas at the same time, and you can't cancel the DTV.

You cancel your DTV and the employer gets you a work visa. Working with DTV is prohibited, it says it on the visa if you look.

you can't cancel a visa, you can only cancel an extension of stay. His only option is to convert his DTV to a Non-B at his local immigration office inside Thailand.
