Hi everyone, just had my work permit cancelled and my old boss said that my visa is still fine until December as I’ve already paid and extended until then, work permit is cancelled and visa hasn’t been crossed out or cancelled. Is this the case? I’m from the Uk and work permit was issued in trad province if those details matter.

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user's work permit has been cancelled, and they seek clarification on whether their visa remains valid until its expiration date. According to the comments, a work permit cancellation typically results in the associated visa also being rendered invalid. It is essential for the user to visit the immigration office to cancel their visa extension linked to their work permit. Some users clarified that, without a valid work permit, the extension of stay based on employment is also considered void. Others discussed the potential for overstaying and the importance of handling immigration paperwork properly.

You need to inform immigration and then record it. They give 24 hours to leave. Should be able to show you cancelled the WP at border also.

@Stephen ********
That settled the discussion, you left on the same day, so no 24 hours.
Stephen *********
I left that day. I was not on overstay.

They did not give you 24 hours to leave, if your extension is cancelled that day, you leave that day, or go into overstay.
Stephen *********
Last time I cancelled they gave me 24 hours to leave. You can extend IF you pay, but if you don't you are on overstay. Correct?

Bar stool myth has no place here.

When you can show me the police order that states 24 hours , I will be quiet. You are wrong, accept it.
Stephen *********
@Lloyd *******
the norm IS 24 hours. If you want to extend you can, but the regulations state 24 hours unless you do so. This is not false. Boot away!

@Stephen ********
they do NOT give you 24 hours to leave, you can purchase an extension denied for 1900 Baht, that will give you 7 days. If I see you give advice that is wrong again, I will boot you, overstay is serious.

Thanks guys, I did think this was the case but my boss was certain it was different, glad I checked 👍

If you try to use the extension of stay you will overstay from the day onwards the cancelled the working permit.
Amornrat **********
they give you max another 7 days after cancellation of working permit. When they cancel work permit they not need your passport, but for the voiding at Immigration they need your passport.
Robert *******
It is the Extension of Stay based on working inside Thailand, this has to be cancelled on the last day of working. The day you stop working your permission to stay inside Thailand also stops. You have to visit your Immigration Office with the documents of the cancelled Work Permit and cancel this Extension of Stay before you like to do a border run or leave the country to apply for a new visa.

The big question is what is inside your passport? Is this a 1 year Non Immigrant B visa and you do border runs every 90 days or do you have a big stamp from Immigration with the text Extension of Stay is permitted up to ..
*******
and report every 90 days to Immigraiton?
Lloyd ********
he said he paid to extend it, so must be an extension
Lloyd ********
STOP ! Let's first get our terms right, you have an extension of stay based on employment, you are no longer employed, therefore your permission to stay has ended. It ended the day your work permit was cancelled.
Lloyd ********
@Sam ********
you used the word visa, when we are talking about extensions, totally different.
Lloyd ********
@Sam ********
Oh they will, and do. They want to know why you have not bought a re-entry permit, or if leaving on the last day, they want proof of your last day of employment.
Sam *********
Lloyd I "think" everyone on the planet knows what an extension is... No need to be ignorant. Let me rephrase, I have never heard of an immigration official asking for proof of employment when leaving a country including Thailand, even on an extension
Lloyd ********
@Sam ********
if you knew the difference between a visa and an extension, I would listen.
Sam *********
I have never heard of an immigration official asking for a work permit anywhere when leaving a country. It seems very odd. The Visa is what gets you from point A to B, not your work permit. If your Visa is within date range, you should be able to come and go in theory
Lloyd ********
@Sam ********
The exit point will ask
Sam *********
How would anyone know if you were employed or not?
Ellie *******
If you are 1 year of extension of stay you applied at local immigration office, you need to cancel and get out of Thailand. Without WP you might be overstay.

If you are on visa for which you payed at consulate/embassy out of Thailand, no need to cancel and you can stay on that.

@Ellie ******
i was told this also by a lawyer as i am switching wp's now and got a 90 day non imm b from KL. I can stay on it until it expires

Work permit cancelled = Visa cancel too
KookzKaii **********
Yes you can do that. But just incase if you would like to have a work Visa again I'm sure that you will need a copy of the work permit cancellation docs or letter from the company to cancel your Visa.

can I just leave the country now and border bounce and come back on a waiver? Work permit already cancelled
KookzKaii **********
@James ******
you need to leave country and get a tourist Visa if you want to stay in Thailand. AND if you would like to work again in Thailand need to go to immigration to get a cancellation stamp for your current Visa too.
