Can I stay in Thailand after my work permit expires if my Extension of Stay is still valid?

Advice needed!

My wp expires 1st of March but my Extension of Stay is still valid until 2nd of May.

So would I have to cancel my wp or it's fine because the wp expires anyway.

Also I plan to leave Thailand around mid March. Can I stay until my extension expires or would that be considered overstay?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
You need to cancel your Work Permit (wp) as soon as you stop working, since your Extension of Stay is contingent on having a valid wp. If you don't cancel the wp upon leaving your job, you'll be in overstay once your wp expires, even though your Extension of Stay remains valid until May.

Your Extension of Stay is based on working in Thailand. The day you stop working you cancel your Work Permit and you cancel your Extension of Stay, you can do this in advance to arrange travel plans to leave the day you stop working. Staying longer without an valid Extension of Stay means you are in overstay.

You can when you cancel your Extension of Stay apply for a new Extension of Stay and ask if they will give you the 7 days to leave the country on top of the day of cancellation. You still have 5 weeks to organize.

yes, then I would hurry up to sort everything out. ๐Ÿ˜Š so 7 days would be great.

Let me see: You stop working 1st of March and planning to travel mid March, sounds like as you said 2 weeks and you find it annoying to leave and come back for 2 weeks, but for 1 week it is okay?

oh one more question. Can I get the 7 days on top when I cancel my wp and extension? And do I get these additional days even when I cancel before? Need only few more days and would be so annoying to leave and come back for 2 weeks...
