When the school submits the work permit to the labour department on the end of the employment of an alien (teacher), does it automatically cancels the extension (with multiple entry) of the alien staying in the Kingdom of Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When an employer submits a work permit to the labor department after an employee's contract ends, it does not automatically cancel the employee's visa extension. The individual must visit the immigration office to formally cancel their extension if necessary. Confusion often arises regarding the difference between visa validity and extensions of stay. The individual is responsible for managing their visa status, especially to avoid overstaying penalties.

The work Permit isn't connected to the visa because they're 2 different products

keep in mind a work permit is required to get an extension of stay inside the country SO when you lose a component that you needed to get the extension you also lose the extension on that date.. :/

When you get an extension you sign a paper stating IF any of the reasons or criteria change you know you lose your extension.

No disrespect intended or implied to the O/P

BUT

this highlights yet another instance how bad terminology (saying you have a VISA when in fact you have an extension of stay :O ) causes a problem when asking for advice..

Robert nailed the advice (y)

Heres what I needed to cancel my Non B earlier this year. I needed tax records swell as a letter from my employer. Maybe you can show your school this. I was given this at immigration In Bangkok.

Lloyd Turner the school did not inform anything, as the employment ended, they just submitted the work permit to the labour department and had asked me to check out by myself until when my visa is valid (which is a bit strange). I am carrying a non-B visa with multiple entry that expires on May 20, 2020.

Official you are on overstay now your Work Permit is cancelled, walking around playing the game of i do not know and the school did not tell does not do any good in case of. It is YOUR work permit and it is YOUR passport with the stamp, it is fully YOUR responsibility to solve this as quick as possible. Overstay is not like driving a bike without helmet, a fine and off you go, overstay is a fine, jail, court and jail until you can afford to pay fines and ticket back home and blacklisted to return if get caught.

@Rob***
as the school has not submitted me any letter, they just have submitted my work permit to the labor department, so I have to wait for that, right? It's strange.

You can stay till the last day you actually work, not any day longer

I am getting confused here. See I had my non-B on 2015 and every year, the school used to extend my stay for the next year.

Depends if you are in Thailand on the initial 90 days of the Single Entry Non Immigrant B visa, these 90 days can not be cancelled. Or if you are in Thailand with a big stamp in your passport with in the second line Extension of Stay is permitted up to .././.., this has to be cancelled by YOU before or on the last day of working at the Immigration Office.
Robert *******
That depends if you apply with reason over 50 years or married to a Thai national, working as volunteer, study at language school, study at university, train muay thai, learn Thai cooking, learn scuba diving, having foreing children going to school with ed visa, have parental rights of half thai children or are married to a foreigner with long stay just to mention some options.

@Robert ******
this is a perfect answer i was looking for. My work permit will expire on 19th december and i was looking what to do with my Non-B year extension. Thanks a lot. I heard it is possible to extend the stay for 7days when canceling the year extension, can this be done? If yes, how? I'm in Bangkok so it will be done at Chaeng Wattana.

Thanks a lot for all the infos shared in here.

it does not automatically cancel an extension of stay, you need to go to immigration to do that

visas are not cancelled
