Is it worth trying to extend a 6-month DTV visa in Thailand, or should I just leave and re-enter?

Hi gang. Has anyone tried extended their current 6 month dtv? Mine is running out in late March and I was thinking about extending it considering I might only stay in Thailand until June. I am asking because from what I've read it is a pain in the you know what. Has anyone tried and succeeded or failed?
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of extending a 6-month Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand. Many users report that successfully obtaining an extension is difficult and involves multiple visits to immigration offices often resulting in being asked to leave the country instead. The general consensus is to avoid the extension process and instead recommend leaving Thailand for a short trip to nearby countries like Malaysia or Laos to re-enter for a fresh 180-day stamp. Comments also highlight various requirements set by immigration offices that may not be feasible for many DTV holders.

The problem is:

Many doe not meet any of the requirements, example:

Most DTV holders abuse softpower, like a few months training to get a 5 year visa.

If you like to apply for an Extension of Stay at local Immigration, you need to train as that whas your purpose of being 5 years in Thailand.

Those who where honest and did do all by the book, can visit Immigration and apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay as they have all the genuine documents.

Easy and it cost only 1.900 Thb for another 6 months of stay.

IT is not the fault of the Royal Thai Immigration Bureua, who ordered to check and double check the application from people who want to stay longer in Thailanf for a reason.

It is not jumping hoopes, it is not multiple visit as it is only two.

Get the list with requirements and make an appointment and go back on that date with all copies.

The list for Soft Power:

I certainly not always agree with you, but with this you are 100 percent correct.

Of course the abusers of the visa don't want to hear, but theoretically IO at the border can use exactly the same checklist.

For practical reasons they will not do so, unless severe reasons of expected abuse.

Pay attention to what the group expert's are saying and educate yourself.

I did, most people do not meet the requirements.

BUT that is not the fault of Immigration but the choice of DTV holders.

Example: Group expert tells people that 500.000 Thb in your bank account can be used by multiple people, which leads to not meeting the requirements for an Extension of Stay.

Other example: 6 months course is not enough to apply for an Extension of Stay as the course ended before appllication.

I read group experts, but that does not mean they have a clue about Immigration rules, the Admin (not immigration) named them "expert",

Please read my attachment again.

You may call it, get educated.

I don't care if people have another view on rules and regulations, but

as Argumentum ad hominem (Latin for "argument to the person") is a logical fallacy where someone attacks the character, motive, or other personal attributes of the person making an argument rather than addressing the substance of the argument itself. It is used to discredit an opponent, diverting from the topic to irrelevant personal traits.

Try to stay on subject next time.

Some offices require the money to be in a Thai bank. Knowing that DTV holders aren't allowed one and used their home country bank for the application. Educate yourself about the DTV. You may be an expert one day.

I’m leaving for 1 day in March. Won’t bother with the bs paperwork

Dont bother, many immigration officers are not yet fully trained on the DTV and its requirments. it will take a full day, give you a headache and may not result in success

JUst jump a boarder or if you are near an intnl airport book a cheap return flight to Saigon, KL or Vientien.

DO yourself a BIG Favor.

Leave Thailand and return to get a new 180 day stamp.

Seriously don’t bother. Take a weekend break to KL or Laos or wherever. Come back and get 180 days.

It can be done. Some have succeeded. My guess is they probably won’t bother to try again.

If you enjoy jumping through hoops and visiting immigration multiple times then you’re more than welcome to try. They don’t want you to extend. They want you to bounce.

Many have tried. Only a few have succeeded.

What you should expect is to bring everything you think you need for an extension, and then they will tell you something that you are missing and suggest you just leave and return instead.

Once you get that thing they said you were missing and you return, now you will be missing something else. They will again suggest you should leave and return.

Repeat this 2-5 times, and maybe they'll finally give you an extension if you've persevered this long.

Know that many immigration offices require you to have between 14-21 days left in order to apply for your extension, so if this back and forth causes you to go under that, you will be flatly rejected.

There are also some offices that will make requirements that are actually impossible for most DTV holders. For example some will require you to show 500k in a Thai bank account, knowing full well that most DTV holders cannot have a Thai bank account.
