Is it possible to refresh a DTV visa with a same-day exit and re-entry to Thailand?

Has anyone done a same-day flight (exit&re-enter Thailand on the same day) to refresh DTV visa? Will immigration be OK with that?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats share their experiences regarding same-day exits and re-entries to refresh their DTV visas. Most report no issues with immigration, including one traveler who flew to Vietnam and back on the same day without any questions from the officers. Others mention similar experiences returning from Malaysia and Hong Kong, emphasizing that as long as the traveler demonstrates legitimate reason for their exit, immigration typically accepts such arrangements. However, it's noted that experiences can vary depending on the specific immigration officer and their discretion.

Doesn’t it get restarted the day you arrive?

Think about it, what can they do? Say you had a reason for travel beyond extension of your visa, you wanted to leave thailand and come back in less than 24 hours. Should they deny you entry for a short trip outside? The only option they have is to stamp you in on your current visa...

I had the same question few months ago. Flew to Malaysia for lunch then flew back few hours later, no issues. Malaysia didn't even put a stamp in my passport as its all electronic there now and still got stamped in for another 180 days without a single question or issue raised by Thai immigration.

Let me try to explain. I think there are several reasons. The most obvious one is that he's nicely set up in BKK with a condo he loves and all the gear he needs to work. So every day away from that setup is just a loss financially and in comfort.

My personal issue is that I'm very picky with accommodation. I can either camp (requires lugging gear) or live in mold-free new buildings, preferably on a high floor. Booking a random hotel is very risky and stresses me out.

Thirdly, someone might really just have a quick business meeting and legitimate reasons to return the same day.

Hah, you hit the nail on the spot. It’s like you know me well. Yes, that’s my reason. Also, I’ve traveled A LOT in my life already. Been there, done that, seen it all before. So now, just being at home feels like the ultimate luxury. I have my desk setup, my favorite foods in my fridge, my fully equiped kitchent to cook and eat whatever I want, whenever I want, etc.

sounds you need to do some therapy and get over your phobia of exploring and booking hotels. 😅

I'm afraid you won't understand my underlying health conditions. If you really care, look for "Toxic Mold" groups on Facebook and let them explain.

I think the people in charge of Thai Immigration are the ones who really need therapy! Look at this crazyiness. We paid good money for 5 year multiple entry visa and now folks in this group are unsure if they will even be let in, despite clear regulations.

A French YouTuber with DTV said two or three days ago that an immigration officer told him he would be denied entry if he did a visa run. The officer said he would need to stay at least one night outside Thailand.

It depends on officer's mood I guess, but have a B plan.

I guess there is less trouble if you do your visa run by plane. The french wanted to cross the border by land

Not a problem! I flew to Ho Chi Minh and returned to Bangkok the same day. The immigration officer asked no questions.
