Good evening. Does anyone have experience in getting medical visa based on giving birth? Is it at all possible?

If yes, what documents are required, how much is it and for how many days it is given for?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to obtain a medical visa for giving birth in Thailand. If you are currently in Thailand, you may seek a 90-day extension of stay for medical reasons, which is subject to your doctor's evaluation. If you are outside Thailand, you would need to apply for a Non-O visa based on medical reasons with the hospital of your choice. The costs are approximately 1,900 THB for an extension and 2,000 THB for a visa. Extensions can be granted for 30 to 90 days, depending on medical needs, and can be renewed as long as treatment is required.

Somrthing to keep in mind is that the airlines will not let you fly in the last month, so it really is hard to leave.

My covid extension finishes next month. My baby is supposed to be born by that time , so it’s more likely about the baby not being allowed to fly. From what I know airlines only allow 3 months old babies to fly , but I’m not so sure about it . Probably I’ll have to talk to the pediatrician and see what he/she says

That is a good story too. Best of luck with the delivery and congratulations!

You need to talk to your doctor and hospital. Extension based on the medical reasons you need documents from them.

And be aware that extension is not always 90days. It's a maximum of 90days and how many days you will need is up to the doctor's decision.

Assuming you're currently IN Thailand, and you're asking about a 90 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to medical reasons, you'll have to talk to your doctor or hospital about that option. If you are currently outside of Thailand, you'll have to discuss about getting a Non-O visa based on medical reasons with the hospital you want to use to give birth.

The cost of an extension of stay is 1,900 THB, and the cost of a visa is 2K THB (in local currency).

>f yes, what documents are required,

The hospital would know the answer.

> how much is it

1,900 THB for an extension of stay, 2K THB for a visa (in local currency, if you're outside of the country).

>and for how many days it is given for?

Between 30 to 90 days, depending on what the doctor believes you require. The extension of stay can be renewed and reapplied as long as you're seeking treatment and you can't leave the country.

excuse me for not giving the full information. Yes, I’m currently in Thailand on covid extension. Looking for options I might have in case if the government decides not to go on with covid extension. Thank you

If you are really pregnant, and you are going to give birth in Thailand, talk to your doctor about getting the 90 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to medical reasons.
