If you are going to Thailand on the visa exempt method, are you allowed to do the 30 day extension? Thanks:)

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, if you enter Thailand via the visa exempt method, you can apply for a one-time 30-day extension. The consensus among the community suggests that this is generally allowed, although some embassies may provide inconsistent information. Additionally, it is noted that while a visa exempt entry can be extended, there are limitations on converting this entry to other visa types unless eligible. Some users recommend obtaining a Tourist Visa (TR) instead for a longer stay and easier extension options.

Is it true that the visa free entry cannot be converted to another visa, such as a retirement visa or a step below that to move to the retirement visa?

Is there anyone else who could provide an answer that is informative? Thank you
- thank you. Is that a change? Because as I recalled for the several times we were there over the past 3 years it wasn't an option, just a 30 day extension. USA visa free entry.

Scot Smith. It's always been an option, but often it's a tight squeeze, as some visas need a 30-day under consideration period. The 60+30 TR is a more comfortable option
I asked the same question and I believe the answer is about 99% yes. However, many have recommended going for the TR visa for 60 days so that is what I am going to do just to be really safe.
good idea, you are preparing the paperwork for the Certificate of Entry you may as well get a Tourist Visa. You can also extend the Tourist Visa for 30 days.
never listen to what an embassy says about extensions and never listen to what an immigration office says about getting an visa outside the country 🙂

Thank you all, appreciate it:)

Yes. One time 30 day extension. After that then options are limited to a valid reason for a long term extension or a “unable to travel due to Covid” extension
