TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster plans to arrive in Thailand using a Visa on Arrival and is considering obtaining a single entry visa in Penang. Community responses indicate that there may be confusion regarding the type of visa being used, as a Visa on Arrival typically cannot be extended. Instead, if the poster is from one of the 53 countries eligible for a Visa Exempt entry, they could extend their stay in Thailand for an additional 30 days for 1900 baht. Additionally, there are few recent reports about the visa process in Penang, especially since many are currently utilizing COVID-related extensions.

Do you actually mean a Visa Exempt entry ? I don't think Visa on Arrival entries can be extended. What is your nationality ?

I think you got your terminology mixed up because you aren't gonna get ANY extension in country on a 15 day visa on arrival that you buy when you stamp in for 2000baht.

I believe what you really mean is you're from one of the 53 countries that get stamped in FREE when they arrive here without a thai visa in their passport on a 30 day visa exempt entry <- which you CAN extend for 30 days for 1900baht

As far as Penang, no, there are few if any reports from it because most people here are still getting covid extensions and don't have to visa run for a tourist visa.

Check closer to when you're going to need to go and see if there are any reports of people going there.

Hi Tod, wondering if all nationalities from visa exemption list may be granted with 30 days extension? I was told that Russian citizen who came on visa exemption will get only 7 days of extension but I can’t find any official information regarding this

you are confusing visa exempt countries (which there are 53) and who CAN get 30 day extensions, with visa WAIVER countries (which there are 6 <- one of them being russia) who CANNOT get 30 day extensions.

ALL 59 countries will get IN for 45 days starting Oct 1

Thank you, yes i am from Germany and would get a free 30 day visa and as i understand it, it can be extended by 30 or 45 days once,but the covid extension cannot be applied to this kind of visa or exemption,so i hoped to get one in Penang

@And****
, why not just get a tourist visa giving you a 60-day stay? You can now apply in Germany online and upload all your documents as jpegs. You are then sent the visa as a pdf which you can print out and present to Immigration. I got mine from the embassy in Berlin in about 8 hours. Then you can extend that in Thailand by an additional 30 days. Much easier than running to Penang.

don’t you have your Meldebescheinigung? I guess they’d also accept a utility bill or a bank statement.

the covid extension program is set to run out tomorrow and at this time the extension on a 30 day visa exempt is 30 days,

Now Oct 1st those people who used to get the free 30 day entry stamp will get instead a 45 day entry stamp and they can extend that ONE time for 30 more days for 1900baht.

And as I said as far as penang, you will have to contact them to see what the requirements are for the tourist visa. There are almost no reports from there right now
