I am coming off 51/5 years of a W-P/Non-Imm (US Pp) which is valid through Oct but will be canceled end of this month. I am heading to Penang for a tourist visa to wait out a in a job prospect delayed by current economic crisis. I had understood that I could apply for a 60 day tourist visa and extend by 30 at CW. Is this correct? I saw another post talking about a 30-day. Also, would it help to bring proof of own insurance, Pragan Sangkhom, DL, fixed and savings accounts, or would this work against me? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is transitioning from a Non-Immigrant Work Permit and is inquiring about obtaining a 60-day tourist visa in Penang, with the intention to extend it for an additional 30 days. Comments suggest that proof of insurance is not necessary, but a medical certificate, proof of funds, and proof of onward travel are required for the visa application.
There is no proof of insurance required, You WILL need a medical certificate going to the thai consulate in Penang. You will need proof of funds (20K baht or the equivalent) in a bank account, proof of onward travel (in 60-90 days) AND proof of lodging
You will get a single entry tourist visa, stamped in for 60 days and you can extend that at the immigration office in your area for 1900baht
