Is it normal to receive only a 30-day extension after entering Thailand on a visa exempt?

Hello everyone.

I just got back from the immigration office in Bangkok. I entered with a visa exempt, and thought I could get a 60 day Covid extension.

The lady at immigration only gave me a 30 day extension. Is this normal? I was under the impression I could get 60 more days.

Thank you in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported that after entering Thailand on a visa exempt status, they received only a 30-day extension at the immigration office instead of the anticipated 60 days due to COVID-19. Responses indicated that this is a standard procedure; extensions may be limited to 30 days initially, with the possibility of extending further after that period, especially if applying before the deadline. Users also discussed the best ways to reach the immigration offices in Bangkok.

I'm shutting this down to prevent the post from being hijacked.

At most immigration offices, a person must acquire a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism before a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 can be issued.

The last day to apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is November 26.

A person can apply for a new extension of stay at Bangkok Immigration when there is 45 days or less remaining on the "extension of stay admitted to" stamp that was issued.

IF you are within the 45 day window on November 26, you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. However, the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 will begin on the day you apply, and will not be added on to your existing "admitted to" stamp. The cost is 1,900 THB.

I can't see this going anywhere. If anyone disagrees, please make your own post .Thank you.

I've never been to Bangkok immig but, just to be prepared, what is the easiest way to get there?

I'll make it easy and say they have two offices - Muang Thong Thani and Changwattana.

Changwattana: Nearest BTS station is Wat Phra Sri Mahathat

From there take taxi or motorcycle which will cost 70B or 100B.

For Muang Thong Thani, I believe you're best getting a taxi from Wat Phra Sri Mahathat BTS station.

The key to knowing where to go in Bangkok for your extension is actually knowing what stamp you entered the country on.

IF you showed up without having bought a visa from a thai consulate and were stamped in FREE you got in on a visa exempt and go to the Muang Thong Thani Immigration office

Where as IF you bought ANY visa from a thai consulate in your country before you came here you go to the Chaengwattana Immigration office.

you entered on a visa exempt, and to get an extension of stay you would go to Muang Thong Thani.

Go back to immigration around the 24th November for the covid extension, your timing is perfect. Takes you through to late Jan

Next time will be a covid extension (IF THEY STILL EXIST)

Sounds normal to me. MOST immigration offices require a person who entered on a visa exempt to get a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism before being able to apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.
