Is it easy to extend a Non-O Visa in Thailand for an additional 12 months?

I believe I saw a blurb recently about extending a plain Non-O 90 Visa for an additional 12 months. And it was mentioned as “just request the automatic 12 month extension on the Non-O Visa”

Would that describe the simplicity of extending the 90 days Non-O Visa?

I’m hoping it’s that easy.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the process for extending a Non-O Visa for an additional 12 months, mentioning a supposed automatic extension. Comments clarify that there is no "automatic extension" for any visa, and specific requirements must be met depending on the type of Non-O Visa, which typically involves proof of funds for retirement visas. Users advise consulting the local immigration office for precise requirements and suggest reconsidering the approach if incorrect information was initially received.

Unfortunately you have gotten either bad info or just didn't know.

BUT at this point you will have to leave and start again.

Other than that you may be able to pay an agent to fix it for you.

It will cost and then in subsequent years you will keep paying.

Best course of action is to start again and make sure you understand what is required.

There no such thing as an "automatic extension" for ANY visa. You don't say what your non-O visa is for, as O stands for "other" and they can be issued for many reasons. I'll assume yours is for retirement. For the requirements to apply for an extension you'll need to go to your immigration office and ask them for their handout as each immigration office has their own requirements. The primary requirement is going to be proof of funds which is generally 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name only, that has already been in the account for 2 full months at the time you apply for your extension. Proving that requires a few special documents from your bank which will be spelled out in the handout you receive from immigration. Here is a generic list of requirements but you need to get the specific one from your immigration office.

I applied for a retirement visa and got a Non-O 90 day but it doesn’t say retirement on it.

I almost 60 days into my 90 day stay. Over the last week I’ve been rejected for a bank account at 6 offices of 4 different banks in Thammarat and Pak Phanang.

Someone offered agent services for 5,000 baht but I thought I could do this myself.

What was the reason of rejection from the bank? Normally if you have a non-immi O based on retirement with a proof of rent or house in longterm contract + Thai mobile no. there shouldn‘t be any problem to open a bank account.

if you're 60 days in then you cannot get an extension based on money in the bank because your money has to be in the bank for 2 full months already when you apply for your extension. You'll probably have to leave Thailand and return with visa exempt and start over by applying for the 90 day non-O visa at immigration and then applying for the 1-year extension since your money will have had time to season by then.

Unless your embassy in Thailand provides income verification for 65,000 baht per month. But many embassies no longer offer that.

You should try to get the bank account before you leave since it'll be even more difficult to get if you return with visa exempt and you need the money in the bank already to apply for the 90 day non-O visa.

I submitted the monthly income per month document while still in the states before being v issued the 90 day O-Visa. The original application asked for proof not where it was located or what denomination. They never asked anything else just issued a visa.

That has absolutely NOTHING to do with your extension. The requirements for the visa are from the embassy, and are from the MFA. Immigration is a completely different government agency with completely different requirements. You're not applying for a visa, you are applying for an extension. You cannot just submit a simple document showing income. The ONLY things you can submit for your extension is

1) Proof of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account that has been there for 2 months

2) A letter of certification of income from your Embassy in Thailand showing you make 65,000 baht per month

can it be as simple as saying I’m staying with my girlfriend and have a statement I’m living with her indefinitely then apply for the extension

a letter from your girlfriend has nothing to do with proving funds to immigration
