Thanks to the advice received from this group, my parents were able to convert from visa exempt to non-o visas using the certificate of income from their embassy in Thailand instead of paying the new visa prices in NZ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Is the 1 year extension easier to get than the initial non-o and anything important we need to know while preparing documents for this please? Thanks ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

TLDR : Answer Summary
The initial process for converting to a Non-O visa was successful for the user's parents, who used an income certificate from their embassy instead of paying higher visa costs. The user inquires whether acquiring a 1 year extension is easier than the initial application and seeks guidance on necessary document preparations. One commenter suggests that while the documentation for the extension may be similar to the initial application, the user should confirm specific requirements with their local immigration office.

The documents will likely be the same or very similar. They might need to get a new certificate from the embassy. They should ask their immigration office for a list of requirements for the 1 year extension as each office has their own requirements.

the embassy letter/certificate is good for 6 months.

yes thank you, they got the print out of the requirements and the embassy gave them back the income certificate so they can use for the extension.

Great to know it is the same. And from now on, can they just keep getting extensions every year if they want to stay there? Or do you have to apply for the non-o again? And buy reentry permits if they want to go outside Thailand? How long can they go out for each time without applying for a new non-o? Thank you for all your help.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

no more visa, it will just be a new application for extension every year and they can continue to do that for as long as they qualify.

If you want to leave then yes you need to purchase a re-entry permit. They are sold as single or multiple. A single only allows one re-entry and a multiple is unlimited until the end of the extension you purchased it for.

Single is 1000 baht and multiple is 3800 baht.

All re-entry permits are valid until the end of the stamp (extension) they are purchased for. There's no limit to how long they can leave, but they need to be back before their extension expires to apply for the next one, or they lose it and would have to start over again from the visa.
