TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of applying for a visa extension in Thailand may vary depending on whether the applicant is married to a Thai citizen or is a parent of a Thai child. If you are married to the child's mother, you must apply for an extension based on marriage. Conversely, if you are not married but are the primary caregiver of the Thai child, you could apply for an extension as a parent. In one case, switching from a marriage visa to a child visa may simplify the requirements, as it can involve less financial proof, although it is essential to note that extensions based on child status last until the child reaches 18.

If you married with Thai child and your on thier birthday certificate and living together you can apply, I switched from marriage to support of a Thai child, the only advantage is in my office you only have to have your 400kthb in the account before you apply, the only downside is it only last until there 18 not sure but like that. The paperwork is just adding the birth certificate. Thier ID.

You do not get to decide. If you are married to the mother, you must apply for the extension based on marriage.

If you are not married to the mother and you have custody of the child and are the primary caregiver, you might qualify to apply for an extension as parent of a half-Thai child.
