Hi, I'm on a year extension based on being the legal father of a Thai child. My extension is due to expire next January. Is it possible to extend it outside Thailand? (Hong Kong or Vietnam Thai consulate perhaps?) or should I just do it at the immigration in Chang Wattana? Are the documents required to extend it (other than the money in a thai bank) the same as I used the first time or they would somehow required less documents being just an extension? Would I get an extra 3 months if I exit Thailand early January or should I apply for an extension before its expiration? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot extend your visa from outside Thailand; you must apply for an extension at your local immigration office. The documentation required for the extension will be the same as your initial application, and when applying for a new extension, you can do so when you have 45 days or less remaining on your current extension. The new extension will add an additional year to your current expiration date.

You are confusing a year-long, multi-entry VISA from a thai consulate (where you have to exit/re-enter every 90 days) with a year long extension of stay from the immigration office (where you do 90 day reporting)

You cannot get a day more than your current extension is valid for :O In Bangkok you can apply for a new extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp. There is no reason to wait until your current extension is running out because they ADD the new yearly extension to the expiration date of the extension you have now.

then I assume my daughters also needs to be present with me when I’ll apply. Thank you very much!

The documentation is exactly the same as last year, the copeies, the photos, etc, everything is the same.

You need to look at extensions like this; you're not renewing anything, and extensions run out when they run out. What you're doing is applying for a totally NEW yearly extension.

You can apply "extension" only at your local immigration office. At a consulate outside Thailand you can apply new visa ONLY.
