TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the ease of obtaining a Thai visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen or as a dependent of a Thai child (NON-O visa categories). Comments point out that both visas have similar financial requirements, but obtaining a marriage extension requires the 400,000 baht to be in a Thai bank account for two months prior to application, while the dependent child extension does not have this requirement. Both options involve a significant amount of paperwork and eventual in-home visits by immigration officials, making them equally intensive in terms of process.

if you're married to a thai they usually 'make' you take that extension rather than the 'raising half thai children' one.

The financial requirements are nearly the same, for a marriage extension the 400k baht needs to be in your account for 2 months before you apply for the year extension but for the raising thai children extension there is no seasoning of the 400K baht.

Both yearly extensions are paperwork, document, photo intensive & both get first a 30 day under consideration stamp then they do an in home visit and then you go back when that stamp runs out and get the rest of the 11 months extension inked in.

It's 6 with one, half a dozen with the other.

oh ok no idea with that immigration

You need the Non Imm O visa first. Then season your 400,000bt for 2 months then apply for the 1 year extention of stay based on marriage.

These are the requirements for the Phuket office. Other offices may have slightly different requirements but you’ll get an idea and can choose which option suits.

Marriage (M).
