Do you need a health insurance policy for the DTV? If yes, then for how long?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A health insurance policy is not a mandatory requirement for the DTV visa itself. However, it is highly recommended for travelers in Thailand, as healthcare costs can add up quickly. Many travelers suggest obtaining travel insurance or accident insurance to cover potential medical expenses.

Read the conditions of application. Did you see a health insurance requirement? If you apply for a visa you should know what the conditions of application and what are your responsibilities of having a DTV to immagration. No insurance but check before application

No, a health insurance policy is not a mandatory requirement for the DTV visa itself.

However, having comprehensive health insurance is highly recommended for all travelers in Thailand.😊

Do you have Medicare or CanadaCare? Care de Mexico? If so, travel insurance should be sufficient for repatriation or to fly home for more intensive care.

You can get hurt if you don't pay attention just walking around, tuk tuk anyone? Remember to simultaneously look up as to not hit your head, while looking down as to not trip on uneven pavement. Oh my! Is that a scooter driving the wrong way down the road or on the sidewalk? Have something available.

at least with regard to Canada, it depends on the province as an example, if you spend more than 6 months of the year outside of the province of Ontario you lose access to the government funded healthcare.

Obviously if someone flies back on their own and their OHIP card is still in date no one will really question it but if you’re unconscious in ICU and your family is trying to get your travel insurance provider to repatriate you then you may have a harder time. Not to mention that some travel insurance policies require you to maintain your eligibility for state funded healthcare.

Anonymous participant 350, oh, that's right. I remember Chris Parker, Retired Working For You, said that, too. I believe he was born in Toronto.

Not really

It’s good to have one

It will be difficult to get anything other than travel insurance in Thailand

With travel insurance read all the verbiage on it especially if you take motorcy taxis most won’t cover if you get injured

You could buy a full comprehensive plan from your country of origin that covers you overseas…if you are VA rated sign up for the FMP program

Healthcare is relatively cheap in Thailand for the most part…but if you are in the ICU the bills add up quickly

A lot of people bypass health insurance and just setup a GoFundMe acct with a sob story hoping to cover their medical expenses

Good luck

Not for the DTV, but it make sense to have an insurance just in case.

Doctors, hospitals and medicine are not free of charge in Thailand.

No, you need it for yourself 😉

… otherwise your family has to do a crowdfunding😜😂
