Is crossing out an incorrect date on a Thai visa stamp standard procedure?

Arrived at Bangkok airport immigration on March 29. Noticed the immigration officer stamped the wrong date (April 27) for my TR Visa. I went to another immigration officer at a desk behind the primary immigration officers and explained the issue. Attached is a photo of the incorrect stamp that she corrected. I thought she would give me a completely new stamp versus crossing out the date with a pen. Is this standard procedure in these types of situations? I want to be sure this won't cause issues when I apply for an extension in a couple months.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster experienced an issue at Bangkok airport immigration where an incorrect date was stamped on their TR Visa. After addressing this with another officer, the date was corrected by crossing it out rather than issuing a new stamp. Several commenters confirmed that this is a normal practice in Thailand, emphasizing the importance of checking stamps upon entry to avoid future complications. They advised to ensure the system reflects the correction when applying for extensions.

Thank you, all. This post is not going to be the one to collect what's-your-wrong-stamp-stories.

Once it's been affected in the a paper, for sure , the system has been updated. Just keep the paper you were given well to present at any point there's miss harps and all's good to go.

Welcome to the Kingdom. Land of Smiles, Thailand.

They mess that stuff up all the time. You should always check after the stamp your passport. Messed me up badly once.

@Mark ******
surely they could see it was stamped incorrectly when compared to the system info.

Maybe also take your plane ticket with you to Immigration.

I didn't check my entry date entering from Laos and only noticed when I went for an extension in Bkk Immigration...while waiting I was prepared to pay the "overstay" charge as I was in the wrong..and pleastanly surprised they did everything free to make the change..this was a few years ago so maybe not the same now..didn't appear to be a big issue.I check now lol

A signature in thailand is old skool europe ...its individual and binding.

As long as its correct in the system—can double check before you apply for extension to make doubly sure—but its common practice in Thailand

Good job 👏

It’s happened to me 3 times on arrival so I always check my stamp now before leaving the desk 😬

I've seen it before and they add their initials.

so you can correct it yourself? how an op knows is a valid correction?

@Prieto ***
The officer put their initials. If you try to fake it and get caught then the penalty is probably not worth it.

no, you absolutely cannot correct it yourself. Do you have access to the immigration database/somewhere where everything is logged?

I had a similar problem on my last arrival. I just did a 90 day report using the paper form ( due to the glitch in the online reporting system) and it wasn’t mentioned so I assume that it is ok. The importance of checking your passport for correct stamping after passing through immigration in any country can’t be overstated. Many years ago I passed through the land border between Nepal and India and the Indian IO stamped my passport with an exit stamp instead of an entry stamp. Fortunately I spotted it before leaving the office and got it corrected but I was questioned about that when I left India later. Never assume. Always check!

Importance is if they also updated it in the system.

Totally NORMAL stamp correction

AND

Good on you for checking your stamp before you walked away from passport control (y)

Many people foolishly don't check their stamp until days or weeks later and then panic

Just curious, as it says eVisa and your profile shows US, did you PRINT out the PDF they emailed < which actually IS your visa and hand it to the officer when you stamped in to the country?

Most of the time the bad stamps happen because people didn't do that

Again congrats, and glad you caught it, enjoy your time here in the glorious "Land 'O Thaiz" (y)
