If I obtain a marriage visa at some point, how often do I have to leave Thailand to renew it? Do I have to leave at all?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When obtaining a marriage visa (NON-O) in Thailand, you do not need to leave the country to renew it as long as you meet the financial requirements. An extension can be granted for one year if you maintain at least 400,000 baht in a Thai bank for at least two months prior to applying, or if you have an income of 40,000 baht per month. However, if you hold a single-entry NON-O visa, you would require a border run every 90 days for renewal.

I’m on a marriage visa non-O. U don’t have to leave to renew it. U just need to keep 400 k for 2 months prior to applying. Submit ur marriage documents, address, wife documents ( id, house book) hand drown map of house location, pictures of in and out side of ur house with wife etc. easy process I would say. If u r working with a work permit, u will need loads of documents from ur employer.

David Broadfoot I have heard this too. And occasionally you need to provide proof of a dodgy visit to a particular establishment on Sukhumvit Soi

A “married” visa as in not an extension is either a single entry Non O visa, which gives you 90 days on entry or a year long multiple entry Non O visa in which case you’d need to leave every 90 days. Pre-Covid many did this option but it’s not practical now. Indeed I don’t think any Thai embassy still sells them.

if you are applying for the initial Non-O visa in Thailand then the 400k does not need to be seasoned, just shown as coming from abroad. If you are applying for an extension of stay it doesn’t matter where the money comes from but it has to be in your bank 2 months prior to applying.

You can get extensions to stay for being married to a Thai for 1 year and keep extending whilst you are still married and meet the financial requirements of either 400,000 baht in a Thai bank (for at least two months prior to applying) or income of at least 40,000 per month if working or transferred in from overseas if not. Edit - with this method you do not have to leave Thailand at all.
