TLDR : Answer Summary
Upon canceling an ED visa (Education visa) at immigration in Thailand, the timeline for departure depends on the type of visa. If you hold a standard ED visa, it cannot be canceled, and you can remain in the country until your 'admitted to' date. However, if you have an Extension of Stay based on studying that has been canceled, you must leave the country by 11:59 PM on the same day of cancellation, or you will be considered in overstay. It's also noted that different immigration offices may have different policies regarding extensions and requirements for staying in Thailand.

You need a letter from the school, just ask them to put the date of leaving Thailand as last date.

You can cancel an Extension of Stay in advance.

Immidiate effective to leave same day. Extension required prior previous step

LOOK IN YOUR PASSPORT!

If you are on an original ED visa, it can not be cancelled, and you can stay up to the "admitted to" date.

If you are on an Extension of Stay Based on Studying, it MUST be cancelled, and you have until 11:59PM THE SAME DAY to leave Thailand, otherwise you will be on overstay.

Until November 26th, a person can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. This will let a person stay for another 60 days.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. [MAY NOT be asked at Bangkok Immigration] A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and want to use their special forms)

4. [NOT asked at Bangkok Immigration] A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* [but not Bangkok Immigration] may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

Benjamin Hays thanks it's an extension of stay being cancelled. So our flight is leaving Saturday morning at 2am, so technically we would be in overstay if we cancel on Friday?

A person would leave Thailand, technically, when they cross immigration. If you cross immigration by 11:59PM Friday evening, you will have left Thailand, even if you are waiting in a waiting area for your flight.

However, talk to your company or immigration office. Some immigration offices allow the extension of stay to be cancelled, post dated (for example, you may be allowed to cancel your extension of stay on Monday, but have the "admitted to" date changed to your flight, for example, October 1).

Alright thank you so much.

None, you leave that day or find another extension to enable you to stay. PS visas are not cancelled, only extensions of stay.
