TLDR : Answer Summary
The cost of obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand can vary significantly depending on whether you use an agency or do it yourself. Some respondents mention spending around 11,000 baht for agency services, while others note that the DIY approach can cost as little as 2,000 baht. Some estimates go as high as 60,000 baht if certain conditions are not met, such as having a Thai bank account. Overall, costs range from 2,000 baht for a DIY process to potentially over 60,000 baht when utilizing agency services, depending on individual circumstances.

That 28,000 would be closer to 40,000 if you had no bank account, right?

Last summer I inquired with one dozen agencies and every quote was between about 40,000 and 50,000 due largely to having no bank account.

Do you have a Thai bank account ?

Are you on a tourist visa ?

If no Thai bank acc

You are looking at 40K upwards if you are in Thailand

You could leave Thailand - Apply for a 90 day Non-O Visa

and cost a lot less

It costs around 11,000 baht for a retirement visa, but your application needs to be complete and it's a quick process. I used VisaThailand, a very reliable and competent website; I recommend them.

the whole logistics of arranging to rent my home, sell things and car, go to Thailand, get medical insurance (maybe) WITHOUT knowing if I will get the visa. Getting refused for whatever biazzare reason would be stressful, with no home to go back to. Maybe I should get the visa then fly back to the UK and sell things and organise renting off home???

I left everything behind: house, car, family, and I applied for my visa in France. I'm now living a peaceful retirement here in Pattaya, and if my visa isn't extended for any reason, I'll either move to a neighboring country or return to France and rent an Airbnb.

are you still in the UK? It’s better & cheaper to get your retirement visa sorted BEFORE you leave the uk. Search ‘Smile Visa Hua Hin’ they’ll help you out
