TLDR : Answer Summary
An American expat, age 76, seeks advice on which agency to contact for assistance in obtaining a retirement visa to Thailand without directly depositing the required 800,000 THB in a Thai bank. Comments vary, with some users warning against using agents who might circumvent legal requirements and emphasize the risks of not complying with visa regulations. Others mention potential agents and their services, including the costs involved, while highlighting the importance of following the law to avoid future repercussions.

You should find a Visa Agent and they will look after everything for you. It is more expensive than doing it yourself but everything is looked after. It will cost you up to 30,000 THB. Following years do it yourself.

@David ********
If you avoid the 800k in the first year, you are stuck paying the 30,000 every year. You can't just switch to doing it yourself

@Bobby *******
where do you get your information from? Where did I say you do not have to have 800,000 in a Thai bank.

Very foolish to pay someone to help you subvert the law. You will be sorry eventually and out a lot more money.

as for u, i only had a question, there are other ways to do it, I can do it with retirement money, assets, so no problem, but when i ask a question i expect to speak with someone who has a bit of sense, so if you don't like what i say, then stay out of it.. clear enough?
Danny *******
@Weldon *******
“clear enough?” … NO, but I’m done with your arrogance and that chip on your shoulder. Good day.

for u 2 butt heads i only asked a question, didn't expect such a-holes here to give me some kind of low class answer, should have expected it really... Weedit, go back to that job cutting yards, am sure that's what u do anyway, you're a moron
Danny *******
@Weldon *******
No moron, just another American retiree with 800,000 Baht in a Thai account. Just trying to save you some pain, but it's your life so carry on.

@Peter ********
no smart, y put 800k in a thai bank when u dont need to...
Andy **********
@Phillip *******
No, putting 800k in the bank or having 65k a month income is the legal way to do it.

If you haven't got that relatively small amount of money then truthfully, you shouldn't be here.
Phillip ********
@Andy *********
so who makes u judge and jury about who can and cant be there inferring just because he may or may not have the money ..it may be a "relatively small " amount to some people but alot for others, hence the agents help so a person can retire in peace, i have not known or heard of 1 person in the thousands that must use an agent to

obtain the visa that has been deported..

@Phillip *******
Some people are simply born honest. If paying bribes suits your style, it's good for you. I certainly wouldn't risk it.
Adrian ******
I wonder how many of comments from actual people here in Thailand should be a a few filters including asshole filter

all i did was ask an honest question ....

@Weldon *******
When you say , " and not put the 800,000 in a bank myself " , are you saying that you are willing to put the money into a bank but you want an agents help to do that or are you hoping to avoid paying the 800,000 into a Thai account altogether, with the help of an agent ?
Stan ******
Cambodia travel Soi Buakhao, Pattaya, very good.
Fortune ************
stay away if you cannot do it the right way. its by people like you, they make it more difficult for other people who want to do it the right way.
Phillip ********
Fortune Lucky Sun why ? people can do it either way, at least doin the agent way they get an income and it must be legit because all my friens come and go with absolutely no issues..
Nick **********
@Phillip *******
having friends going and coming without issues doesn't make or prove it legit.

It isn't legit. Unless you can show me the law which states that you're exempt from the money requirements when you use an agent.
Phillip ********
@Nick *********
well i sure thousands are doing it the agent way, something must be legit otherwise it wouldnt happen..
Nick **********
@Phillip *******
Just because a bunch of people do something doesn't prove it's legit.

Shouldn't be difficult to understand this is a fallacy.

Easy to prove me wrong though : post the link to the law which proves that by using an agent you are exempt from the usual money requirements.
Phillip ********
@Nick *********
wellwhy dont they close down the agents..??? if they were worried about it
Nick **********
@Phillip *******
I'm not the one running this scheme, so you'll have to ask them.

But you must be naive and new to Thailand if you think that anything which isn't closed down automatically means it's legit.

Again : if it is legit, just point us to the laws with the specific requirements agents use to avoid the money requirements others have to use.

I remember when back in the days guesthouses, stalls on the beach,... on islands openly sold drugs. Was on the menu and could be put on your bill. Was normal, wasn't closed down. Doesn't mean was legit.
Bobby ********
If you're going that way, don't get caught. It'll mean a seven year ban. Tread carefully.
Phillip ********
@Bobby *******
maybe, but ive yet to hear about anyone that has..
Bobby ********
@Phillip *******
Friend of mine in Chiang Mai got caught out about three years ago. Arrested and put into IDC, then deported. Not a good experience
Philip **********
It’ll probably cost you about 30,000 Bhat with an agent.
Jim ********
You should probably use the one that specializes in retirement visas.
Brandon ************
You're asking how to bribe your way into a visa? The 800,000 is a legal requirement. Not the best way to get a start in Thailand and potentially risky too.
