TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have a retirement visa in Thailand, you can enter and exit the country as many times as you wish, provided you obtain a multiple re-entry permit. This permit allows for uninterrupted travel without losing your visa status. It is advisable to get this permit even if you plan to travel infrequently, as forgetting to renew it can result in significant complications, including the need to restart the visa application process.

Bern ******
Husband just started a multi entry visa for us for an extended stay & it was $200 US for ea.
François **************
@Bern *****
it's 3800 bahts multiple entry ($120) if you apply in person either at immigration or airport departing lounge.
Porky ******
Multiple
John *******
Don’t forget to get a re entry permit or you have to start the whole process off again from scratch
John *********
@John ******
can you explain what that is? immigration wrote in my passport “ multiple reentry.” do I need something other than that?
John *******
There a desk just behind where you get stamped out go there to ask for re entry permit
John *********
@John ******
I’m already back in USA for a few weeks. Immigration officer told me if I had re-entry on my passport I didn’t need anything else. Was he wrong?
Ivan ************
@John ********
re-entry permit is a stamp in the passport. Do you have a stamp like this? If you say you paid for it you probably have it.
John *********
@Ivan ***********
yes I do.

Thanks
Sally ********
Just remember to get a re entry permit each time or buy a multiple re entry stamp if you intend to travel a lot. If you forget to buy you lose your visa and have to start again! (Spoken from experience even after living here 10 years! I'd had a stressful year & simply forgot)
Phil ******
@Alan ****
unlimited as long as you buy a multiple re-entry permit
Mary ****
Hi
@Phil *****
, where do I get a re-entry permit at and when do I get it? I’ll be in Hua Hin to get a place and then will have to turn around to go get my mom and bring her to Hua Hin.
Phil ******
@Mary ***
at the airport after immigration
Mary ****
@Phil *****
thank you!
Ivan ************
@Mary ***
you can get it either at the provincial immigration office, or the airport before you leave. Generally it makes sense to get it at the immigration office at same time as your annual extension but if you don't have one you can get it at the airport, just leave a little extra time.

Re-entry permit and be back in time to renew 12 month extension.
John *********
It’s a very small amount of money to get them multiple reentry. Even if you think you’re only gonna leave once I would strongly suggest getting multiple reentry just even if you wanna go to another country for a short visit.
Steve ********
@John ********
Ridiculous. If you’re only going to leave the country once in the year why on earth would you buy a multiple re-entry permit? Buy a single for 1000 baht and save yourself 2800 baht. If you need one on the hurry up you can get it at the airport if your local immigration office is closed, at the weekend, for example.
Todd ********
@Steve *******
might be ridiculous….but a mate FORGOT to get buy a re-entry at the airport so he had to start the whole retirement process all over again. Life happen …emergency trips too. 3800b. Multi. Peace of mind
Steve ********
@Todd *******
I do see your point, but I’ve been here a long time and never yet made that mistake. If anyone does feel the need for an ‘insurance policy’ they only have to buy a single entry permit, for 1000 baht, when they renew their extension. No need to buy a multiple entry permit. Each to their own.
Jason ******
@John ********
I got a non o retirement from uK 90 days single entry , it's my first time to Thailand I will extend for one year when I am there , open bank account etc, do I have to request multiple entry extension and will they allow it , as my first 90 day visa is single entry ?
John *********
@Jason *****
it’s at the end of the 90 days when you get the one year extension when you sign up for the multiple reentry. Make sure you tell them that’s what you want.
Jason ******
@John ********
can I apply for that extension before the 90 days is up ? Like a month in advance, I believe if I had money in thai bank for 2 months , that maybe possible right ?
Anthony ********
@Jason *****
if the money has been in your account for 2 months then you can apply for extension of stay ( retirement visa) if you are on a non o visa. That can be done usually when there is 30 days or less on your visa
Todd *********
@John ********
cost is 3800 baht for multi entry
Stuart ******
As many times as you want if you have a multi re-entry.
Marc ************
@Stuart *****
read the question and give accurate information. If you don't know. Better keep silence.

A retirement visa has no 'single' or 'multiply entry'

You need a re-entry to leave the country.
Stuart ******
@Marc ***********
as said don't think wrong information. Don't need anything to leave country but if want to come back and carry on with retirement extension. Then need a multi re-entry . The question said go in and out.
Marc ************
@Stuart *****
Omg. Please don't argue with me. The info you give is wrong. Can't you admit.

Discution closed.
Stuart ******
@Marc ***********
who you telling not to argue with. Who do you think you are.
Stuart ******
@Marc ***********
i don't believe it gave him wrong information and something I done many times before when working away.
Steve *******
@Marc ***********
Read the question and give accurate information, if you don't know better keep silent. The OA and OX are both multi entry visas.
Myles *******
@Marc ***********
lol you dont need a re-entry to leave the country at all so how about you give the correct info as well! As per its name a re-entry permit allows you to re-enter not leave.
Kim *********
@Myles ******
he obviously meant he needs a re-entry if he leaves and want to come back
Myles *******
@Kim ********
possibly but he went off on someone for giving wrong info and then did the same!
Wayne *********
@Myles ******
agree he said no retirement visa has multiple entry when OA and OX does. He needs to get educated before making more comments.
T ****************
@Myles ******
You don’t need a visa to leave
Myles *******
@T ***************
when did I say you did?
Wayne *********
@Marc ***********
that depends on the type of retirement visa i dont need any re entry permits on my visa. I have retirement OX visa comes as multiple entries
Andrew ********
@Stuart *****
do they have a single use retirement ?
Stuart ******
@Andrew *******
you can get a single re entry. 1000 baht think multi re entry is 3.500 baht.
Ian ********
@Stuart *****
1000 + 3800.
