Trying to settle a debate.

If you fly from England to Thailand in January 2018 for 3 weeks. Then fly home.

Then you fly back September for 30 days ( tourist visa )

Then you extend for another 30 days.

How many more times... can you fly to another country and come back in getting a tourist visa on arrival and extend for 30 days ...

Is it true you can only do this 2 times in a calendar year. ✈️

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the rules surrounding the Visa Exempt Entry for travelers flying from England to Thailand multiple times in a year. A participant questions the ability to re-enter Thailand for a third time on a 30-day Visa Exempt Entry after making a trip to another country and extending the current stay. Responses clarify that while you can generally enter Thailand via Visa Exempt Entry (providing a stay of 30 days), there are limits on how many times this can be done within a calendar year, being notably constrained to two times when entering via land borders. The discussion suggests that repeated entries may raise scrutiny at immigration and emphasizes the importance of having proof of funds and onward travel.

If you like to use a Tourist Visa, which gives you 60 days of stay you have to get one at a Thai Embassy or Consulate before you make your way into Thailand.

Every new Visa Exempt Entry stamp can be extended once with 30 days at Immigration.

My apologies - I meant the 30 days exempt entry.

So you think a third time would be to risky?

You could be asked for the 3 proofs, if you prepare yourself it should be no problem.

Never. You can not get a tourist visa or even a tourist visa on arrival at the Immigration check point on the airport. With an English passport you can get 30 days Visa Exempt Entry (entry without a visa), this can be Extended with another 30 days at local Immigration Office. There is official limit on how many Visa Exempt Entries you can use other than only twice a calendar year using land borders. We have multiple reports that people frequently using Visa Exempt Entries having a bigger chance to get questioned at the airport and have to provide the proof of 20.000 Thb or equivalent currency in CASH, proof of accommodation and onward travel.
