TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no official limit on the number of times one can enter and exit Thailand under the Visa Exemption rule (60 Days). Each entry is subject to the discretion of the immigration officer, who may question frequent border crossings. While many repeat entries are reported without issue, patterns that suggest misuse of the tourist visa, such as long stays or frequent border runs, may raise concerns and lead to entry denial. It's suggested that travelers maintain genuine tourist behaviors to avoid complications.

well it’s the wrong question, it’s not how many times that’s not relevant. It has to do with the pattern. Staying 60 days then getting an extension for 30 days then leave for a day and repeat, and keep repeating like that you will have a problem.

Exactly, because that is not a normal tourist pattern, but simply misuse of visa exempt.

The thing to remember is that a visa exempt entry is for the purposes of tourism. As soon as you appear to not be a genuine tourist you are going to run into issues.

You mean no crossing the border by land and going straight back to Thailand, right? But traveling by flight is no problem, correct?

I will be happy

that seems to be correct. But many people have said they’re not strict about it at the borders.

the embassy doesn't make the rules. Just because they post it on their website doesn't make it a law. There is no legal limit

Kind of depends on your situation but if return by air and stay out for at least a day or two then you are just a tourist. The land border visa runs will get you into trouble after doing 2 consecutive runs. Show details of your living arrangements for the 60 days and they should just ignore you as they really want tourism numbers higher. Don't look like a backpacker by booking cheap hostels and they will respect you more. 😎

They literally JUST changed it to crack down on this. You might be looking at 30 to 90days. (From what I understand) I’m looking at moving around to Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, and Laos to run out the Reentry clock .. Make sure you’re staying up-to-date with the countries laws on visas because they seem to be changing rapidly

I heard different, apparently they relaxed arriving by air but hardened up on the 2 land entries. At the end of the day no one has a clue and it all depends on the mood of the IO at customs. Nothing is set in stone.

Ask about the 30 day extension, get it, tell them thinking about leaving and coming back. Leave come back, thinking about doing it again? Check out some jobs, apply, get hired then quit if don’t like it, got a work visa for longer stays if so desired. Thailand isn’t going to breath down your neck unless a vagrant with no skills or money or disrespectful. Good Luck that approach can get you six months or more to get a work visa. If sweating immigration department.

That is correct. They suddenly see you are more than a tourist and can simply say, no. All depends on the officer.

only personal experience matters

i got stopped in phuket

flying back from KL IN march

second border bounce

there were no other flights landing same time

nice

no queue

but means IO has time to look into it

they can see all your info

where your TM30 s are…

if you are moving around or not

i was questioned

then told no more extensions

get the right visa!!!

I’m not really getting your point. You got in. Like everyone else ffs. Who cares what they ask you? That’s immigration doing their job. There are no definitions for time you are permitted for tourism.

3 visa exemptions within a 6 month period according to the embassy website but like every thing else in Thailand it’s surrounded by vagueness and whatever.

Here me out you can do it many of times. I know some people that do it for 4 years border runs.. You can do it solo and then you find an agent that has crooked eye. It happens,, is it honest? Lots of Karen's will be upset but it's true people go....

Here's the thing Thailand knows they are coming back. So when people leave and go to Malaysia Laos or Cambodia and depends if they need a visa. These countries will make some money off of visas visa entries, flights, commercial sales etc etc. People may stay in those countries for a few weeks and make it a mini vacay and then go back to Thailand.. All these countries benefit cause they all make tourist dollars.

Now it also does depend on immigration officers.

For example my friend got questioned cause he didn't have tm30(temp residency form) so when he went back he pleaded ignorance for not knowing he need the form. He said he loved Thai culture and loved the experience and wanted to see more. He just talked and explained for 4 minutes and they let him in.

You just need to have a good reason and be a confident talker and you shouldn't have an issue. Closed mouths don't get fed. People extend and immigration understand

If there's a will there's a way. Just do it.

It's completely up to immigration. I entered Thailand via Chiang Mai Airport from Malaysia on Saturday, and immigration didn't bat an eyelid....my friend made the same journey today, him and others were pulled aside and grilled by immigration!

It's luck of the draw

There’s no official restriction and totally in the discretion of the IO you’re standing in front of. If they at one point means you’re misusing tourist solution for long terms stays in Thailand you’ll be told to get a proper visa.

There is no official limit. But that does not mean it's unlimited. You can do it as many times as they let you do. Each and every entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer you are standing in front of. If you do it too many times, or spend too long in Thailand without a long-term visa, you will start to encounter issues. They will pull you out of line and interview you, ask you what you think you are doing, possibly ask to see proof of funds and proof of your ticket out of Thailand. Eventually they will either warn you to get a proper long-term visa or they will just deny entry to you altogether. Most people start to encounter this around 6 months in the country, but it's completely random.
