ORIGINAL POSTER
Good evening. I am just getting my paperwork ready for my second marriage extension. I am doing the 400,000 method. My question is how many months of bank statements do I need to produce. I have read 3,6 and 12 months. I am applying in Chiang Mai. British national. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a marriage visa extension in Thailand using the 400,000 baht bank method, there seems to be some confusion regarding the number of months of bank statements needed. Comments indicate that while some expats recommend providing 12 months of statements, the official requirement appears to be 3 months. However, it is strongly advised to have the 400,000 baht in your account for at least 2 months before applying for the extension. This approach should help ensure compliance with immigration requirements and provide a buffer for any potential delays.

And this shows that most people don't know their ass from their elbow about the real rules about banked money method for marriage extensions (other than
@St***
and
@Mic****
)

The rule is you need to have the 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for your next extension, and you need to get the regular bank letter along with updating your bank book on the date you apply for the extension.

Literally just did this a couple of weeks ago. As usual Tod is correct. In BKK they gave the under consideration stamp and said when you come back to get the extension make sure you update the bank book again the day prior. Which was different than Ubon...but whatever.
Tod *********
Yep
@St***
bangkok is one of the few immigration offices that makes you update your bank book when you go back after the 30 day under consideration stamp to show you still have the money banked. Most other offices don't do it..

I think only for retirement visa you show your bank book again, I'm on marriage visa and in BKK and never show my bank book again.
Tod *********
That would be incorrect
@Al**
:/

When you apply for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage at Chaengwattana immigration office in Bangkok using banked money method you will get a 30 day under consideration stamp

AND

they will specifically tell you on that date to update your bank book, make a copy and bring them in to get the year extension inked in.

So many different answers.

Its two months. This gives you time when you come in on the original 90 day visa to sort out bank account and have the money there for the required time.

0 2 months before ur visa expires if on non o marriage visa

As u say most ,Well in Roi Et I could go in 30 days earlier but they won’t send it through to Khon Kaen until my visa expires to get it stamped and that can take a month to get it back to Roi Et . Apperently it won’t get looked at until my visa date expires , which I have been told here.I work to the date as immigration does here and no problems but whatever . I tried asked about this year again , because wanted to try leave the country earlier but got told be same time and dates as usual

Extension of stay ,visa expires . What’s the difference ? My visa expires in April and for 2 months before that I need
*****
0 baht in my Thai account and that’s worked for me the last 10 years . I apply for my visa extension when my visa is going to expire . Is that not the normal thing to do

@Scott *******
there is a HUGE difference from when your VISA or EXTENSION OF STAY expires and when you want to go APPLY for the new year extension.

Most immigration ofices allow people to apply for a new extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Buriram and a few others allow it when you have 45 days or less left on your stamp).

SO showing up a MONTH before your visa expires to apply for a new extension you'd ahve to have the money fully seasoned on that date NOT the date your stamp runs out.

Very few people actually wait it out until their stamps almost running out to apply because you don't lose any days applying early (the add the next year to your expiration date) AND if you're missing any documents you have time to sort it out.

2 months before you apply for the extention of stay, nothing to do with "2 months before ur visa expires if on non o marriage visa"
Coilean *********
I will going down that route later in the year in Chiangrai. I would give 12 months if you have them . Good luck with the journey 😉
