Hi all I’m just after some info as I’ll be selling my uk home soon so in order for preparation to move to Thailand, is it best to apply for a marriage visa before I leave the uk (I am married to a Thai) and if so how soon before as I’m guessing it will be valid for a short period before entry? Another question as I have the money to the amount of 400k thb ready to transfer to my Thai bank, how soon does that need to be in my Thai bank if applying for a visa while in the uk?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To relocate to Thailand as a married person to a Thai national, it's advisable to apply for a 90-day Non-O visa based on marriage through the Thai consulate in London prior to your departure. This visa is typically valid for 3 months after issuance, allowing you to enter Thailand within that time frame. Regarding funds, you need to transfer 400,000 THB to a Thai bank account in your name at least two months before applying for the yearly extension of stay based on marriage. It's also recommended to have your UK marriage certificate legalized and translated for smoother processing in Thailand.

Were you married in Thailand because, if not, you need to get the Thai Embassy to verify your marriage certificate to make things easier in Thailand.

1. IN THE UK: Marriage certificate legalised by the FCDO in Milton Keynes

2. IN THE UK Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO Translated

3. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO AND their translations verified by the Thai Embassy in London

4. IN THAILAND: All the above (ie all 4 documents & their translations, making 8 in total) Legalised by MFA in Bangkok

don’t forget, think “tm 30”, Thais love forms. Register your address via the Thai owner with local immigration office. I’m in a non-tourist region so they don’t care but you should check with your local immigration office.

Don’t know the form number but know upon arriving, you must file…tourist provinces are difficult.

Unless if a scuba diving trip, I avoid everywhere from Bangkok & south.

Apply for the 90 day visa before arriving. As soon as you arrive go open bank account and deposit all funds. 2 months after deposit extend the 90 day visa to marriage visa.

You can apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai using the online eVisa portal thru the thai consulate in London before you leave.

you show proof of funds in the UK to get that visa issued you don't need to bank it in thailand to get the visa before you come here

Once you're here you need to get the 400K baht transferred into a thai bank account in your name only as soon as you can because it needs to be in the account for 2 months before you apply for the yearly "extension of stay" based on marriage at the immigration office where you will stay in thailand.

The visa you get thru the London consulate will be valid for 3 months from the date it's issued, <- that means you have that long to ENTER thailand and when you do you'll get stamped in for 90 days.

You can apply for the yearly extension at most immigration offices when you have 30 days or less left on that 90 day entry stamp from the Non-O visa

This is the link you apply at

and this is the choice you want on that system
