Quick question. Non o Thai wife extension. How soon can a person go below the 400k once the under consideration stamp has been issued. Do you have to wait until the extension is stamped in? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the financial requirements for a Non-O visa extension based on marriage to a Thai national. Queries were raised about how soon one can withdraw funds from the required 400,000 baht after receiving the 'under consideration' stamp following the application. Responses emphasize that practices may vary by immigration office, with some requiring funds to remain in the account while others do not. There's no established written rule about needing to maintain the funds during this period, but it is generally advised to keep the amount in the account until the extension is officially stamped to avoid complications.

Usually straight after, unless your immigration office tells you otherwise.

I thought you had to keep at least 400,000 all the time on a Non O Thai Wife extension

I've never been asked to show my bank balance when getting my extension stamp at Chiang Mai and I don't believe there's an official rule it must stay until you get the stamp, but better safe than sorry! You could always go and ask at your specific IO for confirmation on their policy.

The reason I state for why you should ask if told you should prove the money has been in the whole time you are on your under consideration stamp. It is three fold.

1. It’s not in the published written requirements. So it’s not required.

2. There are numerous reason why you could require the money and obvious they could ask you what them reasons are and would be able to show proof. Why it was used. For instance a medical emergency accident or health issue. give your family (Thai wife) money for any number of reasons

3.You have had the right amount of money in for the right amount of time it states and they have checked on your application date kept. Obviously if they think you maybe are scamming them in any way. This is obviously when they might choose to ask for a little more information. You also could be banned altogether for a EofS in Thailand. I have also only had two home visit in my 9 years of EofS based on marriage and that was due to a change of address when reapplying when that EofS expired as part of the process of New EofS they visited

And why take a risk over the one month under consideration period? Keep the 400,000 Thai baht in the bank account until the one year extension stamp is in the passport.

All requirements are stated in writing for each type of Extension of Stay and are slightly different to do with Money requirements for retirement it is a lot more restrictive. Which is where the immigration officer might be getting confused.

I asked how long hed been working there as I recognised him from my visits at he start of covid. He mentioned he'd been there 20 yrs.

I doubt he was confused mixing marriage extensions with retirement extension requirements.

True but it’s not a requirement for marriage and I definitely would have asked for a reason. I have never been told that or asked to show proof from bank when you go back for you full stamp. And I’ve been 9 years this stamp.

I wasn't asked either last time when they inked it in.

But as Tod said perhaps its a verbal only thing.

I appreciate what youre saying though!

Totally that’s why I say I’d ask for a reason. There maybe could be a reason but I would ask why and expect a reasonable answer

Hi when the officer at Hua Hua Immigration told you that verbally. I would kindly asked if you could have seen that in writing under the requirements for Extension Of Stay based on marriage to a Thai national. And when you see that or got a reply decided on your action.

1/Its no issue to me to keep it in for the under consideration period if thats whats required so be it.

2/This is the second extension and when the first extension was done 3 yrs ago it was mentioned by another officer at that time.

3/The officer was extremely polite commented on the completeness of our application which meant I was no longer stressed as I had only one day left to apply before my original stamp ran out.

4/ In my opinion its best to leave it in so as to avoid it looking like funds may be an issue.

There is no written requirement to keep the funds in the account after the extension is applied for.

SOME offices require you keep the funds in during the under consideration stamp and SOME do not 😕

Several years ago Bangkok immigrations used to make you update the bank book and present it to you get the extension inked when the under consideration stamp ran down.. Now they don't

There is no hard fast written policy about it, sorry.
