Hello - I am needing to renew my passport here in Bangkok. I am reading mixed things online - if I make an in person appointment for the US embassy, how fast is the turnaround to receive the passport? What is the fastest way to do this here? Thanks in advance for any info based on actual experience.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Renewing a US passport in Bangkok can take varying amounts of time depending on the method chosen. Generally, the US embassy website suggests a processing time of 6-8 weeks for a new passport. However, users have reported quicker experiences, with some receiving their renewed passports via the post office's EMS service within 3 weeks. Others mentioned that online applications without an in-person visit are now accepted, which also led to receiving passports in under 3 weeks. Additionally, users raised questions about how passport renewal affects visa stamps, with suggestions that the old passport may need to be kept as the stamp might be transferred.

Curious. How does getting a new one affect your current visa stamp? Or does it. Because I need to do this soon. I'm running out of pages.

Can’t speak for Thailand, but just got a replacement in Japan for my lost one. Mailed everything to the embassy in Tokyo, was told 4-6 weeks. Got an email March 24th saying it was received and started processing. On the morning of 27 March I woke up to an email saying my new one was complete and in the mail

All online application and submitted through mail. No visit for passport renewals now. Just did one in March and we had it in our possession in less than 3 weeks.

You'll get correct information on the US embassy website. Only place for correct procedure. Then there's no risk of mixed messages.
