Hello, I am a US citizen applying for a non-o "volunteer" visa. Does anyone have experience receiving one in Penang?

I would prefer to go there over Laos. I understand some embassies are stricter than others. I ask because the only non-o application form from Penang embassy I can find is non-o, based on "dependent", not "volunteer". Thanks for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen seeking a non-o "volunteer" visa is inquiring about the application process at the Thai consulate in Penang. They mention challenges in finding the specific application form for a volunteer visa, as they have only located one for a dependent visa. Commenters suggest that requirements for the non-o volunteer visa at the Penang consulate are likely similar to those of the consulate in Kuala Lumpur. It is highlighted that the organization the individual plans to volunteer for should provide the necessary documentation for the visa, and it is noted that a special work permit might be required for such volunteering.

This is what the thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur requires (I would imagine that Penang's requirements are the same or similar)

For what it's worth, I (along with several other people I know) have received non-O volunteer visas from the consulate in Kuala Lumpur in the last 6 months and each time was a very smooth process with no issues. It's really helpful that they provide that checklist so you can know exactly what documentation to bring with you. I know your question was about Penang, but just wanted to let you know that KL might be a good option for you if you're open to other places.

The company you volunteer for should be providing you all the documentation you need to go and get a 90 day Non-O visa based on volunteering.

@Jillian ******
did you get it? I also need to go!

, if you have all the documentation you shouldn't have a problem at most of the thai consulates in the area.

100% it's going to come down to the documentation you turn in to support your application.

. They will provide me with all the documentation. I guess my question is if Penang processes my type of visa? I have heard (rumors?) that certain embassies are more difficult to apply for certain visa's. Certainly, that should not be the case but you never know..

For so called volunteer job you need a special kind of Work Permit...

. They are processing a work permit for me. I was just curious about applying for the visa at the Penang embassy..if it was possible, and a smooth experience, or if Laos is a better choice
