Will be picking my ED visa up at Penang at 14:00 on a wednesday. I have a flight at 16:40 and it seems about a 30 minute drive. Does anybody know how quickly I can acquire my visa? It took mere minutes in Ho Chi Minh

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the time it takes to pick up an ED visa at the Penang consulate, given tight scheduling with a flight shortly after. Comments note the variability in processing times, suggesting it could range from a few minutes to potentially two hours, especially considering peak traffic conditions.

Regarding your question, I'd say it's a bit tight. Last time I get a ED in Penang, there were people getting Tourist and Business visas just in 5 minutes, but me and another girl, both for ED, had to wait almost two hours... I think nobody can tell you, you could be out in a minute or in one hour.

Then, it's a bit more than 30 minutes because it's rush hour and the main avenue and then the road could be crowded.

You can do it, but it all depends on the time they take in the Consulate...

I d say you don't need to hurry up. Last time we were just 10 people there. You did the application today (yesterday) so you already know how many people will be there tomorrow. Just arrive maybe 15 minutes before and you will be OK.

For application everyone goes so early because they have a 100 people a day limit. But for pick up, doesn't matter as long as you go in the afternoon hours next day, so usually people don't rush to go at 2pm sharp.

ouch, thanks! I’ve just booked the flight and just gonna take the risk. I’ll make sure to be like an hour or even two on time so I can be the first in line, for what it’s worth

Did you cancel your current Ed Visa? On February 8th you said it expires in June 2020....and that you plan to leave Thailand until end of 2020.

You’re sharp! No I’m actually getting a 6 month additional ED visa on 9 March. I wanted to do 3 months at first, but decided 6 so I have less problems later on down the line.

So the previous plan was to leave in June after the 3 month visa, now it’s gonna be September after the 6 month
