SPOUSE VISA APPROVED in Vientiane!
I applied a 1-year muay thai DTV in Vientiane earlier last month and was approved after interview, as non-western country passport holder.
Today me just got my wife's DTV approved as well as a spouse, with the following timeframe:
Aug 4th Applied
Aug 6th Paid - Embassy had no power on 5th
Aug 10th Additional document request - All pages of passport + Marriage documents (again)
Aug 14th - APPROVED.
Spouse is Chinese nationality, so this doesn't appear to be a blocker.
Spouse supporting financial documents were exclusively mine + sponsorship letter, I had 3x~ the required DTV amount, so >1.5m baht in bank account for >3months.
So this isn't to say it's guaranteed, but I can confidently say Thailand's policy is rules-based rather than arbitrary. As long as you sign up for a proper course with a proper school, and actually meet requirements for the embassy, you're fine.
Be aware for regular principle/primary applicants I'm seeing people still take 2-3 weeks or more, and there's way more people applying here now. For both our visas we've been here over a month already and extended our visas (easy).
Also note she is approved as a spouse (legally married) of me who's on a soft power muay thai visa, so you DO NOT need to do workation-route for spouse approvals like some have said in the past.
One last thing, my spouse's passport was NOT issued in China, and the place of issue was in Thailand.
We put the place of issue as what it said in the passport (city in thailand).
So contrary to what some people also said, and even some agencies recommended, putting the city in thailand was correct. You should NOT put "China" just because the passport was issued abroad when you apply outside of China. If applying in China I am not sure, but if applying abroad, with a passport issued abroad, put what it says in the passport.
