TLDR : Answer Summary
The length of the process for a Thai female to get a US tourist visa largely depends on the availability of interview appointments at the embassy. After booking an appointment, the approval or denial occurs during the interview itself. Some applicants may face delays of several months for appointments, and experiences vary widely; even well-prepared individuals may be denied without clear reasons.

Took over a year and only happened then because we were married

As others have said you are approved or denied at the interview stage which you book online. Open appointments are likely several months out. You can book the interview before filling out and submitting the DS160 online. Book the earliest one as soon as you can. You can fill out the paperwork after. Then check every day to see if an earlier appointment opens up, as they often do.

Just be prepared to be denied. I have heard from several people that have been rejected and the will not even tell you why. My gf was rejected and she has a house, a farm and two sons in Thailand. Never even looked at her paperwork. Asked about five questions and gave her a slip of paper saying basically no.

Check to see when the next appointment is available for a tourist visa interview at the embassy and that is your timeline.

They will be denied or approved at the interview.

Appointments at the US embassy in Ethiopia are booked up 2 years in advance. Thailand better but presume that's why Brandon says this is important.
