TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a 6-month visa (Multi-Entry Tourist Visa - METV) as a US citizen, you typically need to provide proof of financial stability, such as having $7000 in a bank account, and evidence of employment or business ownership in the USA. Applications for this visa can be done at Thai consulates in the USA or countries like Australia. An alternative approach involves using the visa exemption for 30 days, potentially extending your stay through border runs and visa extensions, although this is not the most advisable long-term strategy.
I’m no expert but this will work with no visas. Get visa exempt for 30 days then get extension for 30 more while there. Take flight to neighbor country KL is cheapest. Go back thai visa exempt again repeat process over & over as long as you want.
Sorry just checked this my full message didn't send. That way is not the best you could run into problems. For a long term visa metv. Contact your local consulate and ask what there requirements are. Border bounces for 30 day visa exempt should be your last resort.
$7000 in a bank account, evidence of a job in America or of running a business - then apply for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa at a Thai Consultant in the USA.
