Advice please. My daughter arrived from Australia and was granted a 45 day stay. She wishes to extend it by another 30 days. I understand that she’s required to complete a TM 7 and pay 1,900 baht. My question is, how long prior to the end of the 45 days stay can she apply for the extension? I’m thinking maybe 14 days? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
My daughter, who recently arrived from Australia, has a 45-day stay in Thailand and wants to extend it by 30 days. She will need to complete the TM 7 form and pay 1,900 baht for the extension. I am seeking clarification on how early she can apply for the extension. Community feedback suggests that she can apply for the extension when she has 30 days or less left on her visa in most locations. In tourist-heavy areas like Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, applications are accepted when there are 45 days or less remaining. It's generally advised to apply between 2 weeks to 2 days before the visa expires, allowing enough time for processing.

I went into immigration and extended a few days after I got into the country. They just want your money. Super easy process.

They extend by date so there’s no purpose in waiting.

In my opinion, 2 weeks to 2 (working) days before your visa expires is the better time to go.

It doesn't make sense to extend tou Visa for 30 days of you still have 30 days left in tour visa. That is why they send you away.

Visa extension is a one day process. You can actually do it on the last day of your visa (but I am not telling you to take this risk)

the extension is not 30 days from when you apply its added to the previous expiry date. So this person arrive no visa but exempt stamp for 45 days they can extend after 10 days if they want and get a total of 75 days. They don't send you away, I have never been sent away.

If she's staying with you in a private property you will need to file a TM30 with immigration to register her residence.. should be done within

hours of arriving at the residence or the home owner will be fined.. the fine is 1600 Bht in Chiang Mai.. if you've stayed in a hotel or other accommodation prior to reaching the private residence then the hotel handles the registration so responsibility is not on the individual.. so if you've been in Thailand longer and can prove where you stayed previously.. eg. up until the day before you file the TM30 then the fine will be waived.. just jumped through these hoops myself and I'm 1600 Bht lighter.. lol 😆

How do you bring up a TM30 online? I will be in the same position when I come to Thailand i.e. staying with a friend.

you need to download the IMM eService app.

Most offices allow you to apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left. Bangkok, Phuket and ChiangMai allow you to apply when you have 45 days or less left.

Koh Samui and Jomtien require you to be on the last week of your stay before you can apply.

happened in phangan today. Somebody got sent away because they still had about 30 days to go and the officer told them to come back few days before it expires. Whereas in Phuket I once arrived with 30 days and went to immigration just the next day and got my extension. Really different ^^

As my answer indicated, you can only apply for an extension in Koh Samui during your last week. 14 days is too early and they will send you away.

If she's in Bangkok, make an appointment. Saves wasting half a day if it's busy there.
