How can I switch from an METV visa to a DTV visa in Thailand, and what are the requirements?

Hello,

I am currently on an METV visa that ends mid January and I would like to switch to a DTV and I have some questions to which I couldn’t find specific answers (sorry If I overlooked existing answers)

1- I was thinking of trying to get a DTV visa before my METV visa ends - does this impact the acceptance of the visa?

2- can I go to a neighboring country make the application and come back to Bkk with my METV visa before getting the DTV? Or I need to stay there and wait to get it?

3- for the 500k baht, should I get proof of having them in my current account or does it work if it’s in the savings part of the account?

4- do you know by chance, if I am on a DTV visa and at some point I want to do a volunteering work here, do I need to cancel the dtv and get the specific visa for volunteering ? Or can I can accumulate or sort of have a specific authorization to just do a non paid volunteering for a short period without invalidating the dtv?

Thanks in advance 🙏🏼

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an METV visa and is looking to switch to a DTV visa, seeking clarity on several points: 1) Whether applying for a DTV before the METV expires affects acceptance; 2) If they can apply for the DTV while briefly leaving Thailand; 3) Requirements for proving possession of 500,000 baht; and 4) Regulations concerning volunteering work while on a DTV visa. Responses emphasize that volunteering on a DTV requires a separate visa and that funds should be in an easily accessible bank account.

No special dispensation to volunteer while on DTV. Volunteering needs separate visa. There are posts in the threads of METV holders who obtained the DTV with no problem, the METV cancelled on arrival back to Thailand. The 500k should be in an instantly accessible account .

my money are instantly accessible, to access them I need to transfer money from the savings to the deposit it takes few minutes for the money to transfer - can I just provide the proof of my savings? Or is it better that I transfer money to the current/deposit and provide proof of money on the deposit/current account?

Anonymous participant To avoid any delay with EVisa application maybe better transferred to the current account as that is easily understood in terms of accessibility.

You cannot do any kind of work in Thailand while on the DTV Visa. Volunteer work requires a Thai work permit. And a Volunteer Visa. Don't mix the two.
