Nonthaburi will not issue a certificate of residency unless you have a long term visa.
I need this to renew my Thai drivers license that expires next month.
Things are not getting any easier here.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a residency certificate (CoR) in Nonthaburi, it's required to have a long-term visa. If you're encountering challenges with this, consider obtaining the CoR from a different immigration office, such as in Chiang Mai, where fewer documents are needed (just a TM30 and 500 baht). Bangkok has relaxed its rules, allowing certificates on any visa type, and agents in Pattaya may assist with license renewals without extensive documentation. Moreover, if you hold a DTV workcation visa, your embassy can also provide a residency certificate accepted by the Department of Land Transport (DLT). It's mentioned that you can renew a driver's license for up to a year after expiration.
F.S. Consulting in Pattaya, extension of existing Thai license, car & motorcycle together = 6000 THB

Quick aside. Sorry to take over the thread. I don't have an international license, yet would take the test to acquire a legit Thai license if possible. I don't ride a scooter here now as I don't want the random 500 baht tickets. Yet it seems to be legal they not only want a license, yet also a motorcycle license endorsement. Any insights? I'm on a DTV workcation visa in chaing mai. I was in the Philippines and they didn't care, here, seems a bit more strict. Cheers.

you could travel to Pattaya and get your licenses extended using an agent. They don't need much of everything
I understand but I’m not paying 7000 baht for coming that cost 2000 (1500 RC and 500 for licenses .. I don’t mind greasing the wheel but that’s ridiculous
A freind of my wife that we've known for 12 years or so, provides a DL service, I'll send her your details if you like, I think its much cheaper than 7kthb, but clearly more than the normal price.
well the agent route is a breeze compared your trying hard to comply with "Thai logic"

When you come back for long term stay, make sure you have your international drivers permit and then it’s exactly the same process as a renewal. Start again with a 2 year and then 5 year renewal afterwards.
Unless you don’t have a motorbike licence, then it won’t help unfortunately.

Bangkok used to have that rule a while back but changed. Now anyone can get a RC on any visa type.
Not many posts on here from people trying to use Nonthaburi so can’t confirm if they will allow or won’t. For many years i thought it was only Bangkok that had that stipulation.
stated you could get an RC from a nearby immigration office. You’d need a valid TM30 to do so for that province but stay a night in a hotel and get it from them.
The DLT may not issue a DL if you are not on a long stay visa so address that question first

Each immigration office sets their own requirement.
If you cannot get the certificate of residence from Nonthaburi, you can get it from elsewhere. I got my license in Chiang Mai, where they only require a TM30 and 500 baht to get the CoR the next day. You can use a certificate of residence from anywhere in Thailand for a license renewal, though that's the address that will be on the license.
You can also try contacting FatBoys, as they help a lot of people with licenses in Bangkok, and you're practically in Bangkok
