TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a re-entry visa in Chiang Mai when you need it before a weekend flight, you can purchase it in advance from the immigration office, which is only open Monday to Friday. Alternatively, you can acquire a re-entry permit at the airport the day before your flight. The re-entry permit is not a visa but allows you to maintain your visa status when leaving Thailand. Keep in mind the costs: 1000 THB for a single entry and 3800 THB for a multiple entry.

No need to be the day before. Can get it before you fly. Just calculate in some extra time.

You can get one at the airport. 2nd floor International departures. Left of the immigration checkpoint. Bring a picture.

You do understand that it is able to be purchased in advance and is valid until your visa expires.

Allow yourself an extra hour to get it done, because if you don't have a re-entry you start your visa process from scratch.

At the airport. It's a re-entry permit not actually a visa. Single entry 1000bt, multiple 3800bt.

Is the reentry permit office still open there? Seems to be mixed reports and there appears to be no up to date information or opening times.
