I am selling my house and moving to Thailand. I am almost retired and live off passive income but not 50 yet so I need to do the soft power option of the DTV. Does anyone know how to get a letter from a Muay Thai gym . I’m active and think I would enjoy doing that but have no idea how I go about getting an acceptance letter and what is needed on it . Thanks !

Just an update to my post I have a Visa company that’s going to help me . It’s ฿50,000 which sounds like a lot, but they will submit everything for me and make sure it’s right before hand. They will submit the letter of acceptance for me and it also covers the cost of the class for the next six months and the cost of the visa of course Not sure if the letter will need to be renewed every six months or not I don’t have an answer for that. For some, this might sound like a lot, but I was planning on doing the elite visa for about 27,000 USD up until two months ago so this is still a much cheaper option for me

Hopefully that fee covers you for a full year. Typical agent fee to handle everything needed for a retirement visa (incl not having to lock up 800k baht in bank) is 35k-42k. The one year actually ends up being 15 mos and it's done when you're already in Thailand.

Find me a job 63 age .netherland. dear friend .be pmeased .i go there

If you have all this money then just wait until you're 50 and put 800,00 baht in the bank and get a retirement visa, problem solved!

why would I wait till I’m 50? That’s five years away I can always make more money. There’s no way to get time back and we are never guaranteed so many years on this earth. That’s my motivation for doing this much earlier in life than most people .

Don't know if it helps, but saw this on the street outside a gym in Chiang Mai last week.

i think he’s looking at the dtv.

there are some gyms that are doing Muay Thai classes for the DTV but not where I will be as of right now so I’m going to be doing a cooking class instead at least to start out

You have to write to the Gym obviously. They do not scan facebook and sent out letters, 5555.

started recently to support DTV visa. I guess most schools that used to support ED(ucation) visa now also support DTV.

Good luck, and welcome to paradise.

Best bet is apply for METV in your own country before you travel, this gives you upto 9 months here in Thailand. While you are here you can research your options firsthand for a longer stay visa.
Henrik *****
Have you ever stayed more than a couple of holiday weeks in Thailand ?

If no, then don’t sell your house, until you have make a testrun on the same budget as living there.

At least 60 + 30 days.

Everyday life may be very much different from holiday life.

You should go visit Thailand for 4 months and visit some gyms in different cities and see if you get bored or homesick here

I have, but I haven’t been able to get enough information to actually apply for the Visa yet that’s why am asking here , if anyone else has had success

If I were you, I would enroll in the Thai language course at Chiang Mai University instead of a Mauy Thai visa.
Steffers ******
What’s the soft power option?
Barc ***********
@Brook *******
thai language learning school is not soft power activity
John **********
@Brook *******
would that not be an ED visa?
Lena *******
@Brook *******
Agreed. Do you know the cost?

You should think about not selling your house and renting it out instead.
Zev *******

@Steven ******
I thought about that but I don’t want the stress of a house I need to worry about . I rather just invest it .
Steven *******
OK; you can buy a house in Thailand but you can't easily own any land.
Peter *******
Keep in mind you will have to show progress of the gym, including videos of you training running weight, loss, etc. when you report
Chris *******
@Peter ******
it is not a ED visa.

It is a "leisure" tourist visa.

No requirement but to enjoy Thailand.

It's crazy but it's true.

@Henrik ****
I don't know who wrote it, but it's completely accurate. Each embassy will have its own guidelines for obtaining the visa, but once you have it, no additional documentation is required for the next five years.

The source is written at the bottom of the post.

I am also retiring and want the DTV with the soft power option. I have emailed a Muay Thai gym asking if they can supply a letter of registration on a course. I am still waiting.

If you're income could be considered remote then why would you use the soft qualifications. The DTV has nothing to do with retirement age. Just prove you've got the ability to earn income remotely, have a minimal bank balance and a few other details and done... 5 year multi entry visa.
Alexander ****
set up a company pay yourself a dividend d . You will be the owner and director. Problem solved
Zev *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jared ********
I don’t think I qualify for that because I think you actually have to have a contract or something like that from an actual company. I have enough investment income to live in Thailand for the next hundred years, but I don’t think that actually counts for the digital nomad option.
Philip *****
@Zev ******
What investments do you have? Index funds? Mine took a massive hammering today, but that’s how the markets work.
Zev *******

@Philip ****
we all got hammered that’s what I always keep a lot of cash on hand to live on for at least a year
Alan *******
@Zev ******
then why not apply for an elite visa?
Zev *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Alan ******
I can, but that one cost about $26,000 USD so I prefer to do the DTV and save lots of money
Alan *******
@Zev ******
I figured. It was the 'next 100 years' income that brought it to mind and made me envious :) I'm moving there with a retirement visa next month. Good luck to all!
Jared *********
@Zev ******
you don't need a contract, just a way to prove remote income. Investment income or some source of remote income. Doable.
Zev *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jared ********
so do I just need to show them my investments account along with my bank account or what ?
Sam *********
@Zev ******
i suspect that this may work. it is basically working remotely managing investments. im the same, but also have an affiliate website so can use that too and show income from that. if the investments alone not good enough, perhaps buy an affiliate website. may even make a bit extra $$!

same here. But from what I’ve read in these Visa groups, is each embassy has their own requirements (more or less). I’d be using the embassy in LA.

Definitely check with the Thai consulate in your jurisdiction. From various reports, requirements for that path vary drastically from consulate to consulate in terms of how long e.g. the course needs to be and other requirements (TiT).
Zev *******

@Frank-Steven **********
what about the e visa because US citizens can apply that way

Here is the basics I published on the DTV before. The details not regulated in the law precisely are interpreted on the fly by different consulates.

Read this to wrap your head around how the DTV works:

@Zev ******
No difference. Different requirements nonetheless. Actually I was mainly referring to eVisa. There are only a few traditional consulates with paper sticker visa and personal appointment left. Mainly in Thailands neighboring countries. There they would issue the DTV (IF they do at all for non-residents!) on the spot or within just a few days. However, requirements also differ significantly amongst them.
Zev *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Frank-Steven **********
that’s so interesting. Why would it be from the consulate and not from Thailand itself that sets those requirements.
Matthew *******
@Zev ******
get yourself a METV first which you can get 9 months out of, once in country look for a gym near you that does Thai boxing Ed Visa

Also don’t be in a hurry to sell your house
Zev *******

@Matthew ******
well, I’m definitely selling my house. I’m not quitting my job and uprooting just to end up back where I came from. That’s just not my personality. I’ve been to Thailand and travel the world so I’m used to being out of the US and looking forward to the adventure
Frank-Steven ***********
@Zev ******
Welcome to Thai bureaucracy. Every little boss tends to interpret and make their own rules. Won’t end at the consulates. 😊
