I would feel more at ease if I could access immigration lawyer in phuket to guide us on every step required. Would anyone on here have done this and if so, I'm keen to hear your experiences.

Get the list from bank in what they want you to provide to open the account. Also the immigration office will give you a hand out of what documents they need from you. So go pick one up when you arrive.

It's usually to apply for the 90 day non-O based on retirement before arriving. Open bank account after arriving. Deposit money. Then after 2 months go get the 12 month extension. That's in a nutshell.

This is the starting point

If you want to apply from home

If you don’t like the sound of putting up 800K baht x 2 people

Yes the 35K aud x 2 is a bit of a pain

You can sort out

Health insurance when you are here , nothing required before coming to Thailand

I have AXA Thailand

Again if you aren’t happy putting up the 35,000 aud each for the visa - there are agents that can “ Help “

With the Visa using “ their “ money

OP
Ant W Tailor thats great information!! I'll be keeping that aside once I've replied to you. Firstly though I've just realised from what you've stated, that we need 80k which covers my husband n I. I'd thought 40k covered us both. Okidoki. Got that sorted in my head.

I cant thank you enough for taking the time to explain what you have as Im feeling like I can breathe easier.

Its daunting considering selling your home n moving to new country when its starting chapter, so to speak, starts with 3 month visa. I'll just need to reassure myself that thats ok...things will fall into place.

Do you need health clearance cert from gps before coming over in order to get private health care Ant?

Ok

This might be long winded

But this is the way to do it

If you want to apply from Australia

For over 50 years of age 100% easier & cheaper to apply for a Suitable retirement Visa from your home country through the Thai Embassy website ( All done online )

When you are ready to come - Apply for a Non-O 90 day single Visa from the Thai Embassy in your home country about 30-45 days before departure.

When applying online you will need to show the required funds in any bank account , some personal details & Flight details & proof of first weeks accommodation .

Once approved & arrive in Thailand you have 90 days to organise for the 12 month extension

No.1 requirement is

Within 2 weeks of arrival You need to set up a Thai bank account & deposit 800K Baht , per person , for at least 60 days to satisfy the extension

Go to the bank of choice & ask them what they require to open a bank account

You can also come to Thailand on a tourist Visa & get it converted to a Non-O retirement Visa for a much higher cost
