I have an O visa from the Thai embassy in Los Angeles. I did my 90 reporting in Ubon ratchathani and the immigration officer want to see my marriage certificate translated. Can anyone here recommend someone for this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expatriate in Thailand with an O visa reported needing a translated marriage certificate for 90-day reporting in Ubon Ratchathani, despite having used their un-translated certificate at the Thai embassy in Los Angeles. Community members discussed the specifics of the O visa, the necessity of translations depending on marriage status, and the requirement for certification by the MoFA. They suggested looking for translation agencies in Ubon and confirmed that these translations must be certified to be accepted by immigration.

Wherever you get it translated, it still has to be certified at the MOFA so choose a legit translation agency that Thai ministry will recognise.

Are you on an OA visa or an O visa or an extention of stay based on marriage?

So they won't let you do a 90 day report WITHOUT a translated marriage certificate?

No, pretty crazy isn't it.. They told me the process is much easier with a retirement visa.

Did you push back with them? There's no where in the rules saying you have to show a marriage certificate to submit a 90 day report.

yes I did but good luck fighting with immigration just creates more problems

Not in my experience... :\ It only creates problems if you don't know how to deal with them

If you're doing 90 day reports then you must have an extention of stay. If it's based on marriage then they must have seen your translated(?) marriage certificate already.

this is my first 90 day report. Thai embassy in Los Angeles saw my marriage certificate not translated and had no problem but for some reason it's not good enough for immigration in Ubon ratchathani.

If you're doing 90 days reports, even your 1st one, then you're either on an extention of stay or you have an OA visa. You dont do 90 day reports on an O visa.

Well I guess it was my extension that I was going for then, as my stamp in my passport was only good for 90 days but my O visa is dated for 1 year. First time doing an O visa, usually just do a tourist visa but with covid they weren't allowing tourists and I do plan on staying at least a year. My visa is stamped with an O under type.

ok thank you will do!

Ok, you had the multi entry O if it's valid for a year but it only gives you 90 days on each entry. Its normal for Immigration to want to see a marriage certificate for an extention of stay based on marriage. If you were married outside Thailand then you need it translated into Thai and certified.

"O visa" is for "other". What is the reason for the "Non-O" visa?

We do

Any visa agent will have someone who can translate for you.

Isn't a OA visa a retirement visa?
Steve *******
@Bim ******
O and OA are both often referred to as 'retirement visas', however you dont have to be retired to get one. Being 50 and over is the main criteria along with the financials.

sorry my bad it's an O visa. I will switch to OA once it expires
Kool *******
@Ron ************
do not switch to an OA. Keep the type O, just switch it to a retirement extension. Even though you probably have it, an OA retirement extension requires health insurance. The type O retirement extension does not require health insurance, even though it is good to have it.

there is a translation service I used once in the building that has the UK consulate on Soi 13 in Bangkok. Many offer the translation service there.
