How can I extend my visa in Thailand without an embassy letter?

[Visa extension]

For your information I was able to extend (first extension) my visa for one month (until 26th of October) without having any letter from my embassy nor medical certificate. I went to the immigration service in Chiang Mai - Promenada, with the usual requested documents for extension plus the TM30 (notification form of residence) and paid the 1,900 THB. I am French nationality but I guess it doesn't matter.

It is important to point out that AFAIK at this time only TWO immigration offices (Chiang Mai and Pai) are allowing people who entered on a 30 day visa exempt entry OR a 60 day tourist visa entry that went right to amnesty and didn't get their 'regular' 30 day extension to apply for it now.

Reports from every other immigration office are that they're not doing it and are requiring the embassy letter to issue the 30 day embassy request extension.

I think you are right as u can do an extention after your first 30 days here. Amnesty extention if u have done ext already. I guess lol

I updated to precise it was my first extension on my entry stamp back to March. But I actually thought I also needed a letter from my embassy. So for people who don't know and who don't have extend yet their visa they can do it without letter.

Yes, I guess you are right, some of the people in the queue were asking for embassy letter but I supposed it was because they already extended once or maybe they were staying on different type of visa, it's hard to know. But I have the feeling they were helpful and answering to every different case at the immigration service I went to.

Its amnesty extention not exemption extention. Had my tourist exemption extention already and they told me its fine i must do it before friday

Your office obviously has some brains. Others need two copies of every single bit of paper. Someone somewhere will perhaps cop on to see how stupid this is but I won’t hold my breath.

 I thought I needed copy of all my pages too, but they just took these 3 and the guy told me to keep the copies for the next extension, not sure what it means 😁

 Some media are saying that there’s around 150,000 foreigners who need to get visas. That’s 2.1 million sheets of A4 paper. Should help the deforestation needed.

Anyhow like i said best thing to just be prepared when u go. Time running out so no time to make mistakes and not having paperwork needed. Immegration here where i am full of issues always

Did you originally enter on a visa-exemption stamp? If so, and if you haven't already used it, you are entitled to one 30 day extension.

I entered 19th of March with a 30 days tourist stamp that I didn't extend cause the amnesty started before. So yes it was my first extension for this stamp.

. That's why got it with no supporting documentation. The Thais are pretty anal about a lot of stuff, and it'll come up on your immigration record that you're still owed one 30-day extension, even if you'd had a dozen amnesties and a dozen embassy letters in the interim.

 yes apparently, it's just that I didn't know about it and I was pretty sure I needed a letter so I lost a lot of time trying to get one and I waited a while before going to immigration.

. A lot of people are not aware of this as it would be fair to assume that six months after you were stamped in you would no longer be entitled to the 30 day extension, but for some reason it's still allowed

. Some Immigration Offices are still allowing the additional 30 days off the back of the original entry stamp if you didn't use it. It's on your computer file if you are still entitled to one. That's what you would have got.
